Visiting San Francisco - recommendations welcome :-)

there are a ton of great places to eat not too far from Moscone (reasonable walk) ... a few of my casual favorites
Tadisch seafood grille (California st near Battery st)
Perbacco (italian - california st)
La Mar Cocina (peruvian seafood = next to the ferry terminal)
noshing at the Ferry Terminal - Gotts is a favorite
chinatown - great chinese (i don't know names)

i will think of a few others, but i know some of the locals will have a few thoughts.
You will not need a car in SF. Use WAYMO! It's cheap and fun, and there is no driver! I use them all the time.

I highly recommend La Mar Cocina. Fabulous seafood. Water Bar is a good steakhouse over near the base of the bridge on the Embarcadero, and The Progress over on Fillmore is always great.

Fisherman's Wharf (Scoma's, Cioppino's , etc) is always fun, but very touristy and the food is generally touristy too.

Still touristy, but classic for breakfast is Buena Vista (near Girhardelli square in the Wharf area) get the Eggs Benedict and some Irish coffee..

If you care for something a little lower on the totem pole of niceness, my favorite bar to end my evenings in SF is Vesuvio right off of Columbus. Then walk up the street and around the corner for a slice or two from the walk-up window at Golden Boy. The alley next to Vesuvio often has something going on whether it's a popup art gallery, Lowrider photoshoot or just converted to more outdoor seating. Always fun!

My family came to SF in 1848 and I agree with the recommendation of Tadich Grill. It is the oldest San Francisco continuously operating restaurant (1849) IMHO gives you a taste of the real SF

Dang.. I thought I was a native.. My great great grandmother came through the Golden Gate (no bridge then) on a side wheel steamer from New York via Aspinwall and Panama in 1861. Her mother ran what is today Strawberry House on highway 50 up near Placerville. Whereabouts n Los Altos are you? I lived on Newcastle between 2000 and 2009.

Don, you are refering to the 41st Coupe Treffen organized by the German Coupe Club in Northeim mid of May?
Not sure yet if it aligns with job and family but I would definitely be interested in attending. I planned to attend last year when it took place in Bad Soden ("around the corner" from where I am currently living) but then our family holiday covered exactly those days...
Will you be there?
Yes I plan to attend.
