W&N SS Exhaust

I'd love an audio clip or a video once it's on. I'm tempted to pull the trigger sooner than later on it.

New Exhaust

Outstanding, 1 1/2 total time to remove and install new system. Perfect fit, excellent quality and love the sound!

This is a great buy and improvement to the coupe, but I guess a 40 year old exhaust needs to be replaced eventually.

I have a complete system, recently purchased rear muffler, used in excellent shape for sale if any one needs anything.

Sooner,
Which model and year e9 do you have ? How would you describe the sound of the new exhaust vs. the original ?

2800cs

2800 CS, great sound, hard to judge as my old muffler was shot
Installed all three mufflers, not too loud, but great sound through the rpm's
Installed the larger 3.0 system

Does the chrome exhaust tip fit on the tail pipe?

No, but the end of the tailpipe is polished so I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

a couple of thoughts over the wn exhaust,

i talked to albrecht a while ago about this setup, they offer 25 years rust warranty, but it is purely cosmetic, they do not warranty the inner weldings, just check by yourselves and consider

second he told me this was a larini exhaust, but i did not found any reference on the parts or any description in their website about larini, a German friend is suspicious about this being a larini setup (usual Price of a larini system rounds 3000 to 4000 euro) and larini does not offer the CS exhaust in their website,...odd !?

i would appreciate any help on this point

My experience

I purchased a stock City Pack CSL with a very rusted exhuast so the full SS exhaust system from Walloch seemed an obvious answer.

It was hard to find an exhaust specialist - apparently they have all had to diversify as modern cars dont need new exhausts as oftem I settled on Midas chatswood in Sydney which used to be an exhaust and brake specialist. His team said they thought it was one of the best exhausts they had ever seen, they described it as unusually well made.

They easily fitted it to the car and then retrofitted the slightly splayed SS end from the old exhaust onto this one.

My impression was an immediate lift in power due to no more leaks and an OK sound, but dont expect anything too rorty.

Problem was we used the supplied mounting kit and after some time it failed so the gorgeous exhaust dropped and dragged and was damaged. The exhaust specialist said the mounting kit wasnt upgraded to cater for the heavier guage stainless steel so he manufactured some new mounts which proved reliable.

I spoke to Albrecht who spoke to the supplier and they have been fabulous - This happened 9 months ago so I suspect the mounts are stronger now.

The car is being fully restored now so will ensure we use the stronger mounts when we put on the new exhaust.

Enjoy!

I'm still researching options to add some refinement and sophistication to my Coupe King full stainless system and have been reading up more on this system from W&N which seems to be on sale now. Does anyone have this on a B35 or B34 engine and can you comments on the results or supply sound file? My car has stock B35 manifolds that flow into the CC system with a carrot in the rear Magnaflow muffler. From what I gather, swapping out the muffler for something more tame would not achieve the sound I'm looking for. I've also heard aluminized steel sounds more mellow than stainless, but again, no proof of that. This whole topic does not have much to research from except for my Youtube videos from years ago on the CC system, which I was thrilled about originally but not envy my friends with more refined sounding systems...I think Chris Ohmes is in my camp on this too, so any help for a few E9 brothers would be appreciated, my friends...

Obviously, the Coupe King exhaust was a very nice improvement over the rusty stock exhaust I had in my car. I changed to a set of ported ceramic coated b35 exhaust manifolds at the same time I installed the exhaust so while I do not have a b35 engine, I have an exhaust setup that would be appropriate to that engine. Annabelle definitely likes the improved flow.

So while I appreciate the performance improvement, the sound is not exactly what I was seeking. The exhaust is a little louder than I would like, and if I could tone it down a little the absolutely mellifluous sound from my triple Webers would become more prominent. Moreover, I agree with Wayne that the tone from the stock exhaust material sounds better to me than the tone from the stainless steel.

Given where I am on my car, however, this is not a high priority right now. That said, I am often listening to other exhausts while planning for the future.

Update, 3 years,500 miles and 2 hangers totally broken other soon. Reached out to W&N no response

Do not buy the rubber muffler mounts
All ours have broken before the car is even driven out of the shop.

To Sooner, DWMBMW, Gransi on MyFemurHurts - can one of you guys record the sound while starting and driving for the rest of us to know what it sounds like? I wish there was simply a new muffler to install on my system but I don't see anything. My only other worry with the W&N system is it looks smaller diameter than my current setup which appears 2.5" diameter. I've sent a note to W&N and will try to call them next week to see what they say and I'll post that. My E9 mechanic friend Tom Baruch out here has a simple stock set up on his B35 swap and it sounds lovely.

Hi Wayne - I am trying to figure out just how stock is Tom's setup. While I think he used a stock muffler, he has a Supersprint resonator in the center and another one near his rear right wheel. I suspect this is a homebrew deal that Tom cooked this up himself.
