What do you all think about that CSL on BringATrailer?

Indeed... An expert... an "ex" is a has been. A "spirt" is a drip under pressure. Like Ron, my experience starts, hands on, late 70's. My one and only is written into my will. 'nuf said

My coupe is receiving an extensive overhaul. Would you like to see my ///M's?

Nope, nor do you want to see my "///M Cars". All I asked is what makes you the foremost expert on coupe values and all I have seen ever since is a website that has NO bearing on what actual coupe values are. If you don't think I know what I am talking aboutl, take your ///M car or your "under restoration" coupe to a local dealer and see if the NADA book will make sense to you on a trade in!?!?!?!? Like I said, it's only a "GUIDE" and doesn't reflect on what the real market is.
I have no idea who you are, I have never heard of you.

I don't know who you are either. I have publically told this group who I am. If you have evey picked up and read magazine that specialzies in BMWs, then you would know who I am or you may have heard of me. Obviously your world is sadly secluded to this forum.

You know -

The only person who really cares about what a car is 'worth' is the guy or gal that gets their checkbook out.

I could ask $50,000 for my (new to me) CS - Is it worth that much? To me - maybe..... But that doesn't count just by itself. A buyer has to agree with what I think and be willing to shell out accordingly for the item.

Everyone else is just on the sidelines. Literally...... Opinions are like weather reports. Predicting the weather is a nice academic exercise... Looking outside to see what the weather actually is is what counts.

These discussions have gone on and on (endlessly in some cases) on 2002FAQ and other boards I frequent. I always find it amusing (and sometimes irritating) that 'experts' chime in on what a value is or should be based on never actually seeing the car in question - let alone driving it or having a look under the hood or such....

I say let the guy selling the car and the true prospective sales prospect(s) have their say - otherwise... Nevermind.... ;)

The bottom line in my opinion-
So - what is nice E9 worth? Whatever a given buyer is willing to pay.
Just my thoughts -

new to the board(Nov. 07) dp, not new to the craft. and no expert. Please check my pulse if I ever proclaim to know all, I would be dead. Oh, and I thought you weren't watching this thread 'no 'mo. Take your toys and go home.

It's a guide based on ACTUAL SALES VALUES! And I guess you didn't you didn't check out SCMM...ANOTHER useful GUIDE. IT contains ACTUAL auction values. BOTH reflecting REAL MARKET VALUE. You are a car salesman...you have an agenda. Your agenda is selling cars.

So you are a coupe expert and you have only been on this group since August 08? You only have a few posts and almost all of them involving selling something.

I get Roundel every month and have been a member of this group far longer than you and again...I have never heard of you.

Look below-- PJ's right. Edited my post, and done with this pointless thread.

As fun as this pissing match is , why don't you both drop it,Ron you are getting some good coin for good cars, save your good rep by ignoring chics rants, IMHO the csl for sale is not going to sell for 180k just as Canepa is not gonna get 500k for Carys CSL. I will probably be sitting on my csi for a while as well.

...the E9 is one of the most under-valued collector cars on the market today

Only beaten by the E3:

- Far less are around in driveable condition than E9s (which are in relative overabundance compared to the E3) (In germany about 1000-1500 E9s are still registered or more or less roadworthy compared to about 400-800 E3s)...
- In all ways a better car than the E9 by far apart from the looks and the motorsport heritage...
- Arguably more important to the brand historically...
- Almost none are ever restored to even remotely the level at which they left the factory. Most are zombies or just about runners...
- Market value close to the dirt under my fingernails....

Undervalued by an almost criminal margin!
The less pretty sister is much better in bed AND cheaper to maintain... :D

T , Old pos Volvos do exactly the same as an E3, guess what I am not gonna drive one of those either.
Ron , for what its worth I would rather have you sell my coupe than the Chicster

The "Chicster" doesn't sell coupes. But I would be happy to give it a try as you don't seem to be having much luck selling yours.... :).

I´ll run circles round any old POS Volvo in my E3 !

Why oh why does nobody share my appreciation of the E3? Are millions of flies right?

I happen to love e3s. As soon as I can sling some of the current inventory, I have my eye on an Agave E3 with an M106 motor in it.

Hey chic , don't rub it in, I must say though I am enjoying driving it again

It is a really nice car, why not just set a reasonable reserve and put it on eBay?

just to clarify the "Baker" in coupeguy's post

To all,

When Dan refers to "Baker" and getting ripped off ........ HE IS NOT TALKING about "JIMMY" BAKER (me)

Never met David in person (have spoken with him over the phone) ....... met Ben Miller only in passing a few years ago ........

To be honest, I have heard bad things about both Dan and Ben ......!?!?

Have had dealings with Dan (coupe guy) on some parts and the guy seems to be above board and a gentleman ...... no dealings with Ben in regards to money ...... the true test !!!!!

I have some history with this series 2 Bat CSL and as of now do not want to comment ...... VERY BIASED OPINION

I think I'm about as close to the market on CSL's as anyone in the world (or was until a few months ago)

Is it worth 180 grand ....... in todays economy ...... NO WAY !!!!!

Be Safe, Jimmy

Hey dale , wasn't that Big Gerry Marshalls old racing Bav, I thought the only reason they went with the bav was because he was too big to fit in a coupe(lol). He also drove for Vauxhall in a car called Big Bertha.

Yeah, I've had it for about 7-8 years now. And I don't mean to snipe but NO WAY could even you in some "pos Volvo" out-brake or out-corner this "lowly E3."

3.5 liter w/triple DCOE48's, 100-liter fuelcell, AP Girling brakes, Paddy Hopkirk seat (and no I am NOT big like Gerry was)

Love 'em both--E-3 and E-9's

As others have suggested--these early 4 door sedans--handsome solid drivers just does't get much LOVE--my E-3 is named the BVCREME--it's available to a good home for about 1/4 the price of a comparable Coupe--reluctantly available because needing room for the next project.

My 1973 Bavaria is a fine original E-3 with 74,000 original miles--no rust--all cosmetics are all original including sahara paint--all interior surfaces are in superb condition--plus fine chrome and bright work throughout--it's mechanically enhanced with a low mileage (about 24,000) solid 3.2L with mild cam and upgraded later ZF solid, smooth shifting automatic transmission--no drips, no leaks--a very nice driver and when displayed evokes compliments due to time capsule appearance approaching showroom condition--all set for any cross country trip you may want to take.

Was in the Blumax today for about three hours trekking up the 405 to Beverly Hills and on to Benedict Canyon and return while managing to avoid most of the horrendus LA traffic--what a ZOO. A beautiful 70 degree day in SoCal--with several more predicted by the weather folks--so more seat time in the BLUMAX is promised.

BY the way--in support of statements made beyond what one finds in ROUNDEL--within the past 2 1/2 years--when displaying the BLUMAX--I have been approached by no less than three noted and accomplished Automotive Designers who are credited with some of todays finer designs--each has volunteered when viewing the BLUMAX--" The BMW Coupe is probably the most overlooked collectible classic that is also very drivable:--a notion that I have subscribed to for over 25 years--so relax guys--your cars are appreciated by trained professionals too.
