Well, I guess I will do a simple deconstruction thread after all. This is just a teaser, I will edit later to put things in order. You can comment here but I will edit out replies when all of the pics are posted.

I’m already stumped (and embarrassed about it). What is pic #2?
Pics 1 and 2 are the driver door lock. When I get everything organized there will be notes for each pic. Scott, yes this is my coupe, no more big projects, I just sold the 75 2002 that I restored. I’ve been working on the e12, just redid front and rear seats in new leather, they look stunning and are comfortable once again. Why do my pics get flipped?

Not sure but most likely, it has one now.
Like you I decided to go to bare metal on my GTV to avoid any chance of future problems with the 47 year old original paint. He said I was being paranoid and an epoxy sealer would be good enough. I’m hoping the extra investment will also pay for itself when I get tired of cars and sell it to the next caretaker.

The guy painting my GTV said a clear coat will not deliver an OEM single stage appearance, but will be more durable and allows for easier maintenance. I said, “screw originality, let’s go with practicality.”

Then he said he will do a 3-stage paint job that will add depth to my pastel non-metallic color: first the base color then a transition layer done with clear tinted with color, and finally the clear.

I don’t know much about this but friends who are pro painters said it’s a common technique for higher quality restoration paint jobs.

Anyway, something to consider. Hope your paint job goes smoothly.

I was stumped because the door lock cylinder is sliver not black (when clean) and my close range eyesight is terrible. Chris’ pic is great because it shows the Pebra key code (for those who no longer have an original key). As far as captions, I like the current quiz format.

:) I need some basic knowledge before I attempt any quizzes! But either way it's a handy thread to have…

My explanations has not yet started, I am just gathering photos. We take our son to the University of Oregon tomorrow and when we return I will have some time to invest in this. The coupe is almost entirely stripped of trim right now.

Thanks @HB Chris

Safe journey and congratulations to your son. Sure he’ll have a great time.

Looking forward to seeing the thread evolve over time.
