What did you do to your E9 today?

I awoke my car from a four year slumber and found the clutch pedal had no action. The brakes are fine though the fluid reservoir was almost empty. Clearly the clutch slave is leaking. I chose to use the method referred elsewhere here to push the new fluid into the system via the slave bleeder. The port on the bleeder was gunked iup so I had to clean it first and then the rest was a breeze. Now she's ready for a truck ride to Austin and our new
Third Saturday we have cars and coffee in Austin…

My oil cap started to leak after removing it for the annual oil & filter change(2500 miles). The cap has been satin chrome plated and is worth saving. I bought gasket material at the local auto shop and cut out a piece to lay over the rubber seal. The oil leak problem is now solved.
I have enough gasket material to make about a thousand of these donuts. If anyone needs a piece, send me a PM. You can have a piece or two for a self-addressed stamped envelope.

i went by the painter's shop today to see my car / prod the painter ... and much to my surprise, the final slick coat had been put on, the doors and lids were painted, the openings were all cut in ... and should be painted in the next week. the ceylon is looking gorgeous.

well, i went to see the painter today ... and my coupe is painted and clear coated. the outer side of the hood + trunk lids need to be painted, but they will be painted tomorrow. this is right out of the booth - no cut / polishing. here is the door in the sunlight.

Dived into the worst corner on an E9 to fix the rust holes developing there; the front struts. The PO replaced the nose clip and the outer fenders at some point, but never dug down to the last level; the thick steel plate. So I needed to do it now ~25 years later. Luckily the thick steel plate that holds the struts came out looking brown, but structurally fully intact.
It just needs some new steel around it, as the thick steel plate was starting to float in space due to the rust eating away it's mating points:

When trying to remove the thick plate, I saw that the spot welds to the area behind the glovebox & A-pillar were all rusted out, plus also the spotwelds to the arched reinforcement inside the wheel well. As also the vertical reinforcement was not welded to the edge of the thick plate (omission during the previous PO resto?)., it was a quick job to drill just the spotwelds on the tops of the inner fender and pull the thick plate out.
I think it's going to be a lot more rigid once I am finished with the body....

The thick plate cleaned up well with an abrasive flap disc. Originally 3mm thick , I think i can live with shaving 0,5 mm off together with the rust.
It will be Zinc E-plated before being welded back in again.

some rust holes appeared from behind it, which I had spotted earlier when looking behind the glovebox:

Here's a pic showing that the horizontal reinforcement wasn't even welded to the strut tower:

And a first new section being fabbed. A thousand times fitting, removing & hammering.

Scott--No screen monitor will show the actual color like seeing it in person in sunlight. It will be interesting to see the metallic bits in your paint compared to a Glasurit metallic paint on another car.

Drew, its a very fine metallic. my painter does a lot of Porsche paintwork and rarely does anything american ... so he is used to fine metallic bits. in my eye, it looks right ... but i would love to see it next to an original ceylon or original metallic coupe.

Scott is this the same coupe in your avatar? It looks black to me but small pic. If so, was it originally Ceylon and that is why you are switching it up or just love the color and doing a color swap? Looks wild...and that is in a shop with no polishing, the sun might be upset once it comes into the light as you will take away the sun's glory...LOL... it might have to wear shades. I like the finer metallic in this.
