The motor is assembled and almost ready to put back into the 2800. So much more fun to work on the motor than to clean sub-frames and wheel wells.

Getting close to engine install. I have spent most of the last month cleaning undercarriage, subframe, frame rails, suspension pieces. There was black undercoating on frame rails and wheel wells. I cleaned wheel wells and resprayed Polaris. Scraped it off the frame rails and removed all of the brown cosmoline type coating from subframe and then painted subframe, suspension and frame rails.

Notice the difference in original and new motor mounts! Also, used e12 strut bearings, much cheaper. I cleaned the original shock boot and reused it as well. Springs still had markings on them for stiffness.

Looks great! Aside from new billy's are you going to modify the suspension at all? Bigger anti-sway bars and/or shorter springs?

Here is the motor mount. Yes, paint shop mixed up Polaris rattle cans. We are adding a 17mm front sway bar, 2800s only came with a rear bar. Stock springs, Bilsteins, e12 rear springs and Bilsteins to replace the Nivomat self-leveling rear shocks.

Somewhat related to motor mounts

Here is the motor mount.

I asked a BMW specialist shop for any suggestions after telling him about my efforts to eliminate a driveline vibration (most noticeable around 30-40mph) and he suggested replacing my motor mounts which I immediately discounted as a factor.

Having seen your old and new motor mount photo, I'm starting to think there is something to this. Certainly would alter some angles as well the amount of movement.

Thanks for posting the photo.

If all goes according to plan, Mike and I will be installing the motor in our 2800 tomorrow, I just had to make sure everything was clean and proper first. And of course my efforts pale in comparison to what Mike has accomplished with his motor!

Chris, you made me chuckle...I got to stand alongside Mike as he applied the BMW Roundel stencil to the oil filter housing...multiple times until it was PERFECTLY oriented...

Good luck with the "implant", the results you two are achieving with this "rescue" are simply breathtaking!

We did it! One full hour once motor was on hoist, positioning the hoist, lowering, removing small bits for clearance, it's a tight fit for sure. No flywheel installed yet, we needed the clearance. Glad I didn't try this alone.

Nice work Chris- I see you removed the oil filter, it was way too pretty to get it scratched up :) Also like the fuel line behind the firewall insulation!
