Rings just needed time to seat. Right front caliper bleeder is leaking, it was rebuilt so I sent it back, good thing I have a spare. Headed to Houston tomorrow to visit Drew and tour the Johnson Space Center and drive his Bav.

Great work guys, can't wait to go for a drive, we need to get a SoCal E3 drive in soon. Safe travels to Houston. Glad to hear motor is running great.
Just an update on our 2800 project. I've been driving it for a while and I can't believe how silky smooth the engine is, I think it is the bore/stroke combination that BMW got right when they introduced the M30. And the ZF 4 speed is equally amazing. I just adjusted the Zeniths with Steve's adapters and found one linkage wasn't quite as tight and caused a slight lag. While in there I adjusted the valves (1500 miles on motor now) and only three or four were a bit loose. I also replaced the original exhaust and it sounds so much mellower but still sporty. I will be driving it to Monterey with my son this year.
After talking to Dan @dang, Paul @paul cain and Jean-Paul @rblongboarder, they encouraged me to update this thread that I started ten years ago. The 2800 had been with Mike @OCCoupe for the last five years and he installed a new a/c system and drove it down in March. The only thing that still needed doing was the paint which is now complete. I think the Polaris looks stunning. It now has only 65K miles as it was stored for 34 years from 1981 until 2015 when we bought it. I will drive up to Legends this August where it was first shown eight long years ago. And yes, that is its original license plate assigned when bought in April of 1970.

This badge must have meant a lot to the owners, husband, wife and son on the title who had all passed when Mike found the car. It looked nothing like this when found.

I was very fortunate to see this car before the paint work began... the change in the exterior paint's appearance is quite remarkable.
I would like to offer a hearty thank you to Mike who managed to stash and transport EuroShark66's black & blue front E3 seats in this car during the drive from NorCal to SoCal; Mike did me a huge favor, and one day those E3 seats will appear in my own 2800 project.
Chris has been something of a mentor to me since I embarked on my own 2800 project vehicle, and the photos here set a high standard that inspires me.
I noticed several comments regarding Laguna Seca Legends in August. I'll be there and I look forward to meeting everyone in person.

First and most sincere item: It is wonderful to see Chris Macha return this forum! We have missed you.
I watched the painting process from start to finish. The results are spectacular with a very OEM factory like finish. The details: Chris stripped everything off before it got to the painter, it has the correct fine metallic flake, a super uniform application where there is no splotchiness or dark shadow marks in the base coat, and a PPG clear coat that has been uniformly color sanded. Doing 'a complete' with silver is very, very difficult to achieve and this outcome is incredible for the humble shop that did the work. Looking forward to seeing this example take home all the hardware at the Huntington Beach Concours next month and at Legends of the Autobahn https://legendsoftheautobahn.org/ in August.

I will never forget driving this car at Laguna Seca with Fred. Hitting the corkscrew at speed was a thrill of a lifetime! Now the car looks as good as it performs!
