4310316 begins

This thread is called 4310316 begins. If you want the project to be finished change it to 4310316 ends.

so the sunroof wont raise up at the end of travel
its weird -all seems in place yet it stops travel at the front and wont go any further
its doesnt make much since. i see if i can figure what going on

so the 4310316 continues. yet im going to get it to the shop in a month or so
set it in motion for a few months
then ITS GOIN TO BE FOR SALE!!!!
IM not a youngster anymore and i have no use for it
i spend all my time here on the comp generating working drawings and
enjoying the company of my wife
i never go anywhere any more really not even to the store
we have all we need and my joyce is wacko with her phone
havin everything delivered. i wouldnt use as it should be used and enjoyed

and the person that gets it will be in heaven driving this thing
it is dialed in and of course custom hand made.
so we shall see!!
its designed for extensive long driving with the 5 speed and the 3.64 lsd
and the m5 11 to one compression which was meticulously hand made
but i do want to enjoy it for a while
my wife is amendment about be driving it and keeps saying ill just wreck it
which is sure a possibilty with all that power and my radical drivind.
okeydoki

OH YEA - ONE THING I DO HAVE TO RACE IT DOWN TO BEVERLY HILLS AND GET MICHAEL TO GIVE IT A RIPPP.

Is this a late April fools joke? Alan, you started posting about this January of 2016 with ambitious ideas and an equally ambitious finish date. All the work, blood, sweat, tears and love and your goi g to “finish and sell it”? All because you are too old? Murray Fowler (Blumax) was 84 when he quit “couping” and would have kept on if he could, even if he could no longer drive. I just can’t believe you would make this sort of decision before having the final product.

That said, you will have to drive the car in order to properly break it in and do the necessary fine running. I’m betting you will fall in love with it again and take it for some nice drives and local car shows. Legends of the Autobahn is happening again this August, would be nice to see you and your E9 there.

Surprise us!

Love,
Mike

OC I JUST HAD A MOMENT OF STUPIDITY
MY WIFE IS ON MY BUTT TO SELL IT
SO THAT WAS THE MOMENT
YET IM NO GOING THAT ROUTE -ACTUALLY IVE BEEN WORKING ON IT THIS WEEKEND
AS THERE STILL SO MUCH TO DO
I STILL DONT UNDSERSTAND WHY THE SUNFOOF COMES TO THE POINT OF LIFTING IN PLACE AND
STOPS DEAD AND WONT GO FURTHUR SO I/M GOING TO TAKE A LOOK TOMORROW AS THATS A CRTICAL
ISSUE WITH FINISHING.

JUST WENT THROUGH ALL MY POSTS AND WOW
"WHAT A LOG STRANGE TRIP ITS BEEN"
MY FRIENDS AT THE DEAD
--- LONG DEAD!!!!!
YET THE MUSIC PLAYS ON AS DOES THE PROJECT
IM GOING TO GET AT IT SERIOUSLY FROM NOW ON
I HAVE THE MONEY TO TOW IT TO SANTA ROSA IN THE NEXT WEEK OF SO
SO ILL CHRONICLE THE EVENT.
IT WILL BE FRIGGING WILD TO EAR THIS THING RUN
I STILL HAVE A TON TO DO AS ALL THE SUSPENSION NEEDS TO BE
SETUP AND THE BATTERY ISSUE.
ILL TACKEL THE SUNROOF TOMORROW.
ILL KEEP ALL UPDATED.

I am reading that many famous composers had unfinished symphonies. Maybe this is it. Like Schubert:
One of Schubert’s most popular creations, and the question is usually Why didn’t he finish it?” Scholars disagree, but the reason is certainly not because he died while working on it. He was 25 and had six years to live. During that time, he composed a tremendous amount of music, including acknowledged masterworks like his Ninth Symphony, his three greatest song cycles, the three final string quartets, his C-major Quintet, and stacks and stacks of piano and vocal music. But a look through his catalog also will find that there are fragments galore, numerous other pieces he left incomplete. It seems to be part of the way he worked.

Personally, I would leave all the cosmetic stuff until after you get all the engine and mechanical done What is to say, that you will need to repaint again after working on the engine and electrics again I would focus on one thing right now, get it running, even if you have to start backtracking and taking some of the performance stuff out just to get the engine running my .01 cent worth

Thanks, Rick

SO LOOKS LIKE ILL TACKLE THE THE FRONT PAINT TOMORROW
ITS SO HARD TO TELL WHAT THE MATCH IS GOING TO BE.
I GOT THE PAINT THIS TIME FROM AUTOMOTIVETOUCHUP
IVE USED A LOT OF TIMES
UNLESS I GO DOWN TO NEDS IN CONCORD WHERE THE MASTERS
REALLY KNOW HOW TO DIAL IN A PERFECT MATCH
ITS REALLY A CRAP SHOOT.
SO ONE THING
MY FRIEND MENTIONED WE CAN TOW THE CAR SOMNETIME IN NOV TO SANTA ROSA
SO THATS FINE =ILL HAVE ALL WINTER TO REINSTALL ALL THE PARTS IVE REMOVED
WHILE ITS JUST BEEN SITTING ON BLOCKS.
SO OPINION???
DO I DARE TACKLE THE REAR WINDOW SEAL , BY MYSELF, THATS JUST BEEN LAYING AROUND.
I LOVE THIS PLACE I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ALL THE COMMENTS
ABOUT TO BE. THANKS ALL

@aearch you may want to read the thread at https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/sunroof-howto-wanted.18413/#post-316313 for insight into the sunroof issue. In retrospect, my analysis of how the little ramps work was a bit wrong but they are still part of the system. The ends of the cable where they attach to the sunroof are hinged and when the roof reaches the end of its travel in the closed position the force of the motor on the cables causes the hinged ends to pivot, riding on the curved metal strip ramps, thus lifting the roof panel. This works in conjunction with the curved metal strip on the panel and the "pin" with the little roller guides that sticks out of the side of the cable end and rides on that strip. @Markos has a video there that shows how it all works. Compare that to yours and you'll see what's missing.

FYI, I'm not certain that the original cables had these roller guides (mine didn't and it doesn't look like Markos did either) so I don't think they are critical -- the pin alone will ride up the curved metal strips just fine.

You can see how they pivot here:

well im in a world of a mess
i realized i made a big mistake trying to use this link unit.
so ive got to go back to the drawing board
every shop i spoke to wants amin of 16 to 20k to configure this unit
so im going to have to pull the harness and start over
i think the best way is to get a a standard m5 motronic unit and harness
install and see how far i can go on my own
if i can one to buy.
and get help here on how to install / configure
