'67 2000CS resto...Papa's Church Car

I can't remember where I posted updates, anymore... it has been a very busy October.

I completed the car and hit the road for the BMWCCA O-Fest event in Greenville, SC. I drove to Savannah, GA first to see 2002, good-guy, Ray Koke, then up to Greenville. Then to NC with the BMW Classic group, made my way home via New Orleans for a very fine weekend with Steve Armstrong; finally getting home late Sunday evening. Then drove it to our factory up near Fort Worth, and then out in the Hill Country this weekend with Terry Sayther's 02BerFest. I got home last night and checked my logs... 4560 miles in two weeks.

I have a short list of items to address, but the car ran beautifully; handling twisty mountain roads and 80mph highway speeds with equal grace and style.

I am very happy with how the car came out and I know my Papa is smiling down on me. He would have been very proud of this car.

Thank you everyone who was a part of helping me rebuild this '67. I am most grateful to Barney Toler; without his help and extreme patience, I would not have succeeded in this endeavor.

All the best and happy times ahead,

Wonderful update. Really enjoyed seeing you and the 2000CS in South & North Carolina. Nothing better than seeing you in my rear view mirror with a huge smile on your face!

We are kindred spirits when it comes to driving these old BMWs long distances.

What did you have to do to win first?

I had no idea what I was doing, Mark. I left my CocoMats in place and then forgot my umbrella in the floor... apparently these are no-nos. After that, it is a clean car contest... no dirt, no smudges, spotless... They do give points for having driven the car to the event.

It was interesting, but not sure I'll do it again.

I thought it was interesting that there was no on-site prep or "rags down". Once you parked the car you couldn't touch it. Got dinged for having my registration and manual in the glove box. Didn't get to see my judging sheet, so I'm not sure what else they found, but if Vern is a third place car I've got no chance. It's ok, though, I still enjoy talking to folks and checking out their cars...

I've also done my last BMWCCA "concours" - like Dohn I may enter for the social aspect but won't worry about cleaning it

I did the "display" non-judged class at the Pittsburgh O'fest, but decided if I was going to spend the time cleaning the car I might as well try for a trophy. Nothing ventured, right? I fully recognize that my driver-quality, not thoroughly restored coupe can't compete with the nut-and-bolt restorations, but I bought it to drive and show, so I'll continue to do so, win or lose...

Concours are so much more enjoyable when not being judged. And speaking with my judges perspective, I like nothing more than to hear an owner say “I signed up for judging but don’t want to be judged,” makes my life much simpler.
