Sent heater box to Hami and Brendan at PRdesginsSF in San Fran for overhaul and they've been really great so far in sending pictures and communication.

Their work looks really good and excited to see everything finished and back together.

I rebuilt mine, it was a lot of work, and the cost of plating and foam, if you don't mind, how much are they charging you? you could PM

A great example of something that I have zero desire to do myself.

As I attempt to initiate a remodel my home, I draw parallels with this build. Sending your car off to VSR is like hiring a GC. @BavarianCream is still having the work done by “subs”, but he is his own GC. I think this is a great approach for many people. Only a handful of shops (such as VSR) can be trusted to do things properly. This is a way to get professional work done but still keep tabs on the nitty gritty.

I have my heater out now as well. Looks like I may need at least 1 Bowden cable. These have 1 end that fastens through a bolt with a hole in it, pretty common. But the other end is a 3 coil loop that slips over the end of a rod. This is the unusual part. I expect someone here has had to replace one of these cables in the past, and wonder if you found anything like the originals. NLA at BMW or W&N. Possible to improvise some wire rope product, but extra steps. This heater project is 1 lengthy drop down window of cleaning, repairing, gluing, and so on. It has helped me almost forget how hard this was to remove, but anxiety is already building just thinking of the day it all goes back in ;).

I am at the exact same stage. But after contemplating what looks deceivingly simple I realized I better let someone who has done this before do it. So I dropped it off last week with someone who actually knows what he’s doing.

I thought the same thing until I really started examining and realizing I was way out of my league and there are far more qualified people able to do this better and quicker than me. I would have just ended up with a huge box of parts that someone else would have had to reassemble.
