I'm astonished by how clean are the aluminium parts of the engine: how have been they cleaned? Blasted? Ultrasounds? Any finishing?

I've been working on the A/C-Radio panel. It has a couple of scratches and the paint had a depression from a radio face plate. I left the area around the knobs alone since they will be covered by the trim. I also installed the headers.

Thank you for the kind words. I think we are all trying to achieve a better standard for our cars. I have seen some beautiful work being posted on this forum which inspires me to keep pushing along on my project. I hope to keep seeing some more great progress from others and also hope that my thread can inspire others.

Mike great work, I didn't realize how much work you have been doing lately. I was a few pages behind LOL. Really love those headers, especially the finish and color and of course that they are Alpina. What is a jet finish and what color is that jet finish? Is that like a ceramic? Never heard of that.

The color is titanium and it is a ceramic finish designed for very high heat. They coat the outside and inside. It supposedly helps with exhaust gas flow and helps reduce the heat coming from the headers.

Here is the inside.

You know it's good when

My wife was looking over my shoulder while I was viewing this post and she would not let me move on until she viewed ALL the pictures. I think she wants the rear seats in our living room :) And I don't think she was kidding!

Interior bits.

Watching and being involved with the interior has been rewarding. Juan is a true artist and has been very tolerant of my busybody nature. We (he) started attacking the door panels and rear quarters. I brought at least 4 of each panel to him and none were jumping out as being in great shape. We agreed from the beginning that Juan would make the majority of the panel in leather but the basket weave would need to be harvested. Unfortunately we didn't have much to work with. In addition my coupe is a later '73 and doesn't have the plug for the winder access; so I sourced the basket weave vinyl and had some dye matched so that I could paint the material.

After dying. The match is pretty good but it needs a few more coats.

And the left

Juan also started on the map pocket. This is really a lot of work and requires a ton of massaging and thought.

Since I opted for a non standard color we had to make a decision on what to do with the door pulls. Do we dye them or wrap them in leather? I like leathers!

Hi
Very amazing work, looking fantastic
What do you use for dying? I am also trying to make a complete red interior, using blue and brown pieces

Mike,

they look fantastic. so are you going to put the chrome trims on ... or leave them off? the panels looks so good you don't really need them. but hey, Speedway has done so much metal refinishing ... why stop now. curious to hear what you are going to do.

makes me think about doing leather a/c panels too.

thanks
scott

Thanks Scott,

I do plan on putting the trim on. I sent it out to have polished and coated. Juan is doing a great job and it really is a pleasure to watch his progress.

Mike,

Very nicely done. Regarding the chrome trim pieces that Scott asked about - they probably won't fit due to the enlargement of the arm rests by the thickness of the leather.

I have leather covered arm rests on the car I bought and the chrome trim pieces were not present. SO - I bought the trim pieces. When I went to install them after dyeing the leather in the car to a different color, I discovered the arm rests would not fit in the depressions in the chrome trim.

I like the leather covered arm rests. Another e9 Forum member now has the trim pieces!

Hi Mike,

The color combination of your coupe is incredible! I love, love that interior color.

Can't wait to see it in Monterey!
