New E9 owner all the way from the UK - How doo! :)

1 word, "Brilliant!"

Well done!

Looks great Owen! how does she drive?

I'll give LCG a call - I pick up my car tomorrow! pics to follow mate!

Hey dj - tell tell tell!

Mine drives great though brakes still not quite right and the gearbox will need help soon as its a bit noisey - All feels nice and tight though :)

Hi all,

Just waiting on the stainless brake hoses to arrive now - can't wait to fit them!

o :)

Ah...You've Caught The It Too.

Well Owen I can see you're in the thick of it...no turning back now, not that you would want to. I find Mahle generally keeps me out of trouble...unless I've taken her on a drive. Keep in mind we're all here to help whenever possible.

Cheers, Doug

Thats a really nice post, thanks Doug :)

To be honest, this resto could have been a lot worse, luckily the car was fairly healthy to start with - I've just taken it to the next level.

Can't wait to get some miles under it's wheels - i'll have to be quick though as its nearly winter :(

Hey all!

More work has been happening on the CSI and she's now ready to roll!

The stainless steel brake hoses have been fitted and teh system bled - It now stops straight and true which gives way more confidence to drive it (I'll get round to that at some point ;))

All there is to do now is fabricate some new speak holders (The original hardboard one's are in a bit of a mess) and find a better piece or passenger side wood trim.

Best regards,

o :)

Great work! Terrific results.
Here in the Colonies we have races to see who has the slowest power windows. I upgraded my driver's side to a 5 series motor. Lightning compared to original. Will do the same for the passenger side.

Keep the photos coming. Steve

Hey all,

Will get some new pics soon - car hasn't changed much visually since the last set but under the skin its getting even better :)

The headliner came from Jaymic - Took the trimmer a while to do and the rear screebn had to come out but the result is great - you don't have easy access to the roof motor once the headliner is installed though.

Cheers the the comments guys, will report back with an update when I have one,

o :)

I'VE JUST HAD MY FIRST PROPER DRIVE!

So delighted to have finally driven her this weekend - its the first time since the day I bought it!

It was a nice day so I hooked up the battery, took off the main ignition lead and cranked her for a minute to build up the oil pressure before starting - which she did first time.

After 5 mins of warming up I took her for a drive around the village. The new brakes are working really and the car felt brilliant - tight, assured, powerful, agile and painfully stylish - everyone was stopping to look at it :) Here she is just after her first drive in over 18 months;

I though I may need a new gearbox but now she has had a drive its quietened down massively, to normal levels in fact so it may just have been that on the short runs she was getting the oil wasn't getting a chance to circulate properly.

A couple more minor details and she'll be 100% finished :)

Comments very welcome :)

(a very smug) o :)

1st drive

Looking good and welcome to the real joy of ownership--the fun to drive part!!

I still grin from ear to ear after 39 years with BLUMAX on outings and the collective seat time of over 500,000 miles in the three Coupes I've owned, plus the numerous ones located, sorted, and proven roadable and reliable from long distance pick-up and delivery of several here in CA--one however several years ago--delivered from Socal to Minneapolis, Mn. for a new owner--trouble free.

Just for fun--see map from Costa Mesa, CA to Minn., MN.

Lovely! Worth all the time, effort and money. I envy you. I have not uncovered my coupe, polaris 74 CSi, in weeks. We are having a wretched winter. This morning it was -1 farenheit. If the roads are dry, the salt is washed away and the sun is out I drive my coupe all winter.
More photos please.

Hey all,

Haven't been on here for a while but today was a big day for TMY as he was taken to a special BMW specialist in Surrey for some final work before becoming comissioned for the road permanently.

Starter motor issue so that very nice man from the AA came to collect for the 35 mile trip from my place.

I followed it down in my car with a mate (who took this picture!) Car looked proper good shining on the back of the wagon..

Here it is after being dropped off - list of things to do to make it a useable classic are;
New starter
Electronic ignition
Wiring tidy-up
Modified alternator
Lock tidy-up

Fingers crossed they don't find anything to dramatic to do!!

This garage is so knowledgeable, I know TMY is in safe hands..

E9 Problems

Hi Owen, Welcome aboard, 1,Fluctuating Needle on a Speedometer is a sign of a tired Speedo cable ( when the cable gets tired it tends to wind up and then let go) causing the Speedo needle to fluctuate usually worse at slow speeds, A speedometer repair shop should be able to make a replacement. 2, Front sitting to high is quite normal, you should be able to have the front springs compressed. 3, E9 coupes are know'n to have the worlds slowest electric windows, You need to get 2x sets of rear window motors from an E28 and fit these in place of the original Coupe 1's, 4, Sunroof would be a good idea to remove and clean all of the sunroof cables and tracks put fresh grease on everything and reassemble,

Good luck and enjoy your drive they didn't make much better in the 70's.

Cheers Warren
