Looks like a happy bunch of coupers.
Did you remember to avoid slower traffic to get the most out of the hairpin just downhill from that outlook? (Duane, did you put down your coffee this time?)

Slower traffic was very polite pulled over giving us an almost clear run.

I walked by my coupe at 9PM and said "I'm doing this for you". After spending all weekend grinding and rinsing my concrete floor in prep for epoxy...

She will appreciate it!

Looks great. I really wish my garage was taller. It's 7' at the cross beam that supports the bedrooms upstairs. The rest is 8' but that is irrelevant when it comes to a lift.

Happily, there is no living-space above the garage so I have 12' and was able to install the extra tall lift allowing me to walk under without conking my cabeza.

Tracking down my low idle. Not seeing any obvious vacuum leaks, I started checking on the carbs. A little shot of carb cleaner over the front car causes the car to run rough and die. A shot over the rear carb picks the idle up and it runs smooth.

Thinking stuck float, I took the top off the carb to see fuel in the bowl, and the float moves fine. Put it back together and it still idles low and surges.

I'm going to blow all of the fuel lines with shop air and take the jets out and see if one is clogged.

Received word from VSR that Athena's interior wood trim is on it's way to Madera for restoration.

Parts, more parts

I got an '81 M30 head in the mail today. My car still has the original head and I'm a bit concerned about cracks, though I have no evidence of them so far, so I picked up a later replacement from an E24 on eBay to have as a spare. If nothing else, I can practice setting the valves inside where it's warm.

Talked to Mario at VSR. Athena's engine is being dropped with the subframe and transmission as a unit. This is to cosmetically restore the engine, it was rebuilt in 2011. Then the engine bay will be media blasted and repainted.

Wood trim should be back from Madera in a couple of weeks. Hoping to have Athena all back together by the end of December.

Visited Stan to test fit a trunk carpet project I'm working on for our coupes.

Then drove to VSR to see Athena. Glad I did, some exciting progress is underway.

Engine is out and being dismantled. Engine bay is having everything removed for media blasting. Mario and I discussed the scope of work to be completed, level of detail and a time line for completion. Should be completed by the end of December 2015.

Andrew, looks like you got to the battery area just in time! It would be great if Mario could send you pictures of the clean-up so you could do a post-as-you-go here. I get to Albany pretty often now that my mom is living up there- How close is that to you guys and Mario?

About 4 hours by car, unless it is snowing

The battery area is just surface rust nothing too bad. VSR is excellent about taking pictures documenting and communicating the progress. Best shop I've ever had the pleasure to do business with. They are located at 3 Robinson Road in Bow NH, it's about 3+ hours from Albany. I'm 5 hours from Albany, Stan is 3.5+ hours. I'm 2+ hours from Bow and Stan is 50 min.
