What did you do to your E9 today?

I prepped my recently purchased Original, small , trunk mounted spoiler for paint, for the CSL.

Ordered the new pistons for my soon to be new block, putting in my notice to SF Don that a visit to assemble will soon be necessary. Joined local private racetrack H2R in San Marcos TX, about an hour away- it will make a good testing grounds for the blue e9 and subsequent projects :)

Awesome Stan, you'll love the city lights, I use them all the time make great daytime running lights.

Did you have to get new ones made or did you find the size you need in stock somewhere?

Made sure that it is ready for a Cars & Coffee event tomorrow.
I drove one of my E9s the 350 miles from Stockholm to my summer house. My turn signals are not working on this car, which I haven´t used for a few years. I will change the relay and see what happens. Once or twice it would give one or two green lights, and then nothing. The hazard warning is not working either.

Took the coupe for some exercise down to Thibodeaux LA, cajun country, to a local meat market to pick up some Boudin (spicy chicken and rice sausage) and beef jerky all made in house. Blasted through the sugar cane fields and past antebellum plantations. These cars are thoroughbreds that love to run. Anxiously waiting to get going:

I finally installed the wood "bus wheel" that I have been restoring for years!!
I need to rub off the excess 3M yellow adhesive.
I am very happy with how the wood turned out.

Great job Stan! I spent some time this evening fiddling with my steering wheels. I should have been pulling parts from the donor car, but this was way more fun.

First I figured out how to mount a momo horn button on a Nardi. You need to put a momo horn ring on the outside of the wheel, and ultimately cover it up with the aluminum decorative ring. Unfortunately I was lazy and decided to use a hand drill for the Nardi holes instead of my drill press. I wreaked havoc on the $6 horn ring so i'll need to start over. Ebay has all sorts of horn rings that supposedly fit momo and nardi, but I don't trust this claim since they are clearly different diameters and mount completely different. I got my horn ring from crowder's, which is a reputable steering wheel shop.

Momo holes start at 12 and 6, and are spaced at 2 3/4" apart. Nardi holes start at 3 and 9, and are spaced 2 7/8" apart.

Edit: Got a new horn ring that has Nardi and Momo holes. Works perfect. $6 well spent!

This next one was a bigger lift. Last weekend I completely dismantled my euro 2800CS petri. I sanded the spokes and shot it with satin black paint. I wet sanded the spokes after that with 1500 grit paper. Then I wet sanded the leather with 220, 600, and 1500 grit paper. After cleaning it up I dyed the leather black again. The leather was in surpisingly good shape to begin with, but it removed some of the rough areas along with typical sweat and oil. A little lexol after that. I also ran dye over the horn button, which really doesn't soak in. Since the button is porous though, it does dye the embedded dust that you can't get out of the orange peel surface. I decided that I'm going to sell this one since I have a fascination with Momo, Nardi, and Petri wheels.

Markos, I never knew the Sport wheel was a Petri, I love mine and can now brag that I'm running a Petri!

You know I can't tell if you are in resuming your traditional role of editor of my erroneous posts, or if I actually knew something that you didn't (seems hard to believe). :D I suppose that could happen since while you are out driving and enjoying your cars, I am reading about steering wheels.

I probably shouldn't call it a Petri since I believe that Petri made or designed most of the new class steering wheels. Certainly the E9 bus wheels and the 2002 equivalents, plus the 2002tii turbo wheel. I addition to that they made the Mercedes wheels of the same era, and the VW bus wheels (an actual bus wheel). That means Stan has a Petri also!

Case in point, you see what my wheel looks like with the horn button off. (Incidentally the three plunger system of mounting the horn pad carries over to the mercedes wheels, but the spacing and plunger is slightly different. The VW horn pads mount differently).

My "Petri" - as I called it. I kept telling myself that I should snap some pics during disassembly. Oh well.

From: http://wood-steering-wheels.com/2014/04/

Some SW are embossed Petri and others with VDM
This steering wheel has the small Petri wheel trade mark marking

This is a gorgeous earlier BMW wheel made by Petri. You will notice the nearly identical horn activation ring. Now take a look at the logo inside. Look familiar?

Here is a Mercedes Petri wheel that I had for a little while. notice the similar three plunger arrangement that fastents to a chrome steering wheel pad base.
