What did you do to your E9 today?

My coupe was packed in a trailer to make its pilgrimage to its new home in Saint Augustine, FL. I've never driven it in December so I look forward to driving it in two weeks.

Happy Holidays to all!

Found and mounted original BMW Stufenreflektoren for +25% more light!

To be completely honest, this is from yesterday... and it's not mine.
I inspected a 2000CS that has been sitting for 15-20years for a friend. It was stored inside and supposedly run periodically. It will need some reconditioning but it would make a nice weekend driver. It's been freezing out so I didn't get a chance to take it out. If my friend doesn't make a deal for it beforehand, we'll get back out for a second look when it warms up next week. He doesn't want too much info out, so here is a shot of the front end:

**** UPDATED 12/20****
It sounds like my friend has made a deal on the 2000CS, but they will not complete the sale for a couple of months - long story. He is not worried at all that it will be sold in the meantime because 1) the seller and buyer have been friends for ~30 years and 2) very few people know the car exists. We'll go check it out again soon, so I'll update this story when I get better photos.

reset the doors and all the settings for the windows
and i got it dead on with the glass touching the rear seal
i didnt think it was going to work ,
i guess the door had a real lot to do with it.
now on to the other side.

real nice work on the lock repair

replaced my starter solenoid, in situ! The former one, from a "rebuilt" starter had been giving me grief all year since installation. Symptom was, every so often, turn key, just get click, then again, then start. Then not for a week, then again. Had a new starter and solenoid as a spare, one but did not want to have to drain coolant, remove back carb...and so on and so on as in complete starter replacement. Found really small ratchet to help turn screws holding solenoid to starter, then installed just the new solenoid. Starts each time now! Mike

Let's see....

Changed pilot jets in the Solexes...I didn't like it and went back to where I started. Came with 57.5s and best idle was barely 1/2 turn out on mix screws. I tried 52.5s and best idle was more like what the book says it "should be" at about 1 1/2 turns out on the mix screws... but it lean-popped at light throttle inputs, so I went back to a richer pilot jet. Plugs look very slightly hot, but they are NGK BP5ES and I could run one cooler and be just about perfecto on plug color. Only... I'm trying to run a little hot right now to try and burn off carbon from this engine being babied for so long. I WILL be keeping a very close eye on things, believe me.

Other than that, I'm just replacing missing trim screws and polishing everything in sight and driving it... I found that the horns are toast. Relay clicks, there is power at the horns, but no honkie. I rapped them with a small hammer and such, but to no avail. I'll look around for some proper Hellas.

You go Ed...you are on the right track. Expertise lives here, and someone has already lived through and sorted what you may be experiencing with your Coupe. Good luck! Mike

Tonight I put a freshly charged battery in the car. I tested the electricas. The headlights, tails, and some gauge lights work. The overhead light doesn't work. The blinkers don't work. The wipers don't work. Most importantly the heater box works. I needed to test that before selling my spare.

I also stuck my driver's wiper back on. :)

I won't drive without a working horn, when I go through traffic I have one hand on the button at all times to anticipate the dumbass that will inevitably pull in front of me.

yea... it's bothersome not having a functional horn. I'll remove them today and see if I can get them working on the bench. Otherwise, Hella has a kit with both hi and lo tones for $25-$30.

I'm also waiting on some headlamps, then it will pass inspection and be legal-eagle. ...hoping to find some 1967 Texas license plates to register it with.

Thanks, Mike!

Coupes are new to me, but, luckily, I have a bit of experience with the family of vehicles...mostly 2002s. I am very thankful for this site, though, and the wealth of information found here.

The 2000CS shares engine, transmission, front suspension, some brakes, and some of the electrical pieces with the 2002, so I'm in familiar territory. I've been bitten by the sidedraft bug for some time, so that is not slowing me down (Steve can testify to that). In reality, this car is coming along quite nicely and I have been able to solve most every problem with only moderate perseverance. I think I was very fortunate to find a car in as good a shape, mechanically, electrically, and such... it was merely forgotten for decades, it seems. I can see this being a daily driver, quite honestly...

There are a number of NOS 1967 Texas plates on eBay, but they are listed for quite a bit more than I paid two years ago. I got a new pair for $70.
This is the email I got from the seller, with a discount code that may still be good.

We hope you enjoy adding it to your collection.
We'd like to offer all our items on ebaY at all times, but listing & final value fees add up fast and we cannot afford to.
But there IS an alternative!
Go to www.thejumpingfrog.com, the first link below this message.
And SAVE an ADDITIONAL 20% by using this coupon: Frog2016.*
While we regularly feature about 25,000 or more items on a rotating basis in our ebaY Store, there are another 75,000+ items available at the first link below this message.
Typically, the prices are 15-25% lower, though we do charge nominally for shipping & handling. Payment is by PayPal.
*- Put in the coupon number Frog2016 at checkout and the discount will automatically calculate. Coupon applies to new purchases on our website only, not ebaY. And it is not applicable to past purchases.
So if you're looking to expand your collection and save a little when you do it, have a look at our site. The best way to search is by KEYWORD. Or browse the categories at the right.
Thanks for your business.

Thanks for the license plate link... unfortunately, they have no '67 Texas plates.

The ones on ebay are ridiculously priced.. I have a phone # of a guy in San Antonio who deals in vintage plates; I'm hoping he has a good set. "License Plate Jesse" 210-532-7456

edit... Jesse in San Antonio has boxes of old, un-issued plates, and also used plates that have some patina. $85 for the NOS sets plus $6 shipping.

I have a vintage plate from 1972 and love the look and subtlety - many don't notice it.
