thanks keshav
what i was looking for is what connects to the front of the airbox
actually the airfilter box

Alan I'm hesitant on suggesting you buy a factory airbox since I don't know if it will fit. I thought your motor came with one. The original m5 setup had the airbox in roughly the same area as the e9 battery tray. a hose went to the front of the car to a plastic light cover for fresh air.

If you search the web for e9 s38 swaps (try google images). You will see that that owners aren't running the factory airbox. My guess is that it doesn't fit.

should i put one on mike
i didnt know whats its all about.
does the megasquirt need that?
i have this two wire air pickup in the airbox and i used the wires
for the afm to that unit.

Alan I think you need to talk to whoever is helping you with the kdata. You might have a few options. The afm could be restrictive.

your right about that.
this is the first serious unit ive toyed with.
the rest have been production vehicles.
why did you use the air flow meter?

on the 74 does someone know what the wires above connect to?
do they have to do with the starting sequence?

so i've been working on the hood as it was from an earlier version with the washer nozzles
in the grilles.
so i re-drilled the holes at 9-1/4" and 3-1/2" .
as per support information.
the darn location is real a bear to install as you need to get back in there to set the bolt.
i used shoulder nuts so i could hold them in place with a box wrench
then screwed them in fort the top .
ordered a long set of needle nose pliers with a bend to set the tubes.
still a tough job, yet needed to have it as per oem.

having the starter rebuild as it was no good from sitting around
then i can check the electrical system.
got the gas tank all fixed as per another post.
removed all the minor rust from the bottom lip below the rocker panels on the bottom of the body.
it tends to get bent up and hold a lot of dirt and rust there.
as per another post also.
set the hood grilles w/ just three screws as the oem part has no preset holes for the front portion.
it is very solid w/ just the 3 screws.
as the grommets to hold the grille are 7.00 a piece i just used nylon washers and the screws are 2.80
a piece i used small stainless steel sht metal screws.

the top pics are before and bottom -after.

I was looking around for a while to see what air filter box might work.
i decided on the e60 V10 driver side box.
i first trimmed off the bottom about an inch and a half to lower it.
then cut off the excess top triangle extra mounting area.
removed the inlet hole and moved it rearward on the left side face.
and finally cut the elle portion of the air filter to square it up.
now it will fit perfect where the battery was and clear the radiator inlet hose.
will ad one more piece to cover to connection gap on the side.

I mounted the radiator and have a full 1" clear to the fan.
so all will work fine.
was wondering why i had no power, s o checked the harness that was done by others and they
failed to connect the starter alt wire to the battery .
so i quite re-leaved to have sorted it out.

Hi Alan, is that safe, the sidewords hanging position of the battery? Can newer (gel) batteries can be positioned like that?
I'd be worried that the upper part of the battery would go 'dry' with gravity pull? Keshav

It wouldn't be my first choice for locations but you can mount AGM batteries sideways without issue.
