4310316 begins

when thru the rest of the wiring today - hooked up the battery
and amazingly everything works on the e9 side
tucked away eveything super neat used dozens of wire ties
and rolls of cloth tape
now just to check the eta side for the engine

After a lot of analyzing the wiring , i have almost finished it up.
So i moved over to the ac and found out that the old hoses couldn't be refitted to new connections.
That was a letdown. yet i have a tube guy very close by and had him redo all of them new except one.
I was lucky and pulled a vacuum and it held first time.
Took a picture of the oem m5 ac bracket and compressor setup.
one thing that was strange was the angled copper gaskets are very special.
even thought the connectors are #8's the pieces had to be ground down to fit.
I even got some from the dealer that were to big.
On to other things. I want to get all the right side of the engine finished.
So i installed an aluminum wedge behind the booster to move it to the right to clear the air box, also i slotted the holes in the mount to get it as far right as possible,
so now i have a good inch clearance.
Started to finalize the push /pull throttle linage and bent the oem unit and rod so that seems it will work fine.
Will set the airbox tomorrow .
Its a bit of a task to align the headlights in the grilles, at least in my car, so that should be fun.
OCcoupe mentioned i could get new euro turn signals, so i changed the single contact to double to run the parking lights.
Also ran a line over to the H1's to light the low beam on high beam position

Alan, I assume you are running H1 low and high beams, running a wire from high back to low beam will result in both always being on. Put a jumper into the plug next to steering column from high/low stalk to connect white wire (high) to yellow wire (low).

Oh, thank you,
i really didnt know what i was doing, except i saw that somewhere here.
i ran a line from the low beam to the parking light.
so is that wrong, and should i change it

I finished up the linkage.
I used the stock rod, just cut it, re-threaded and bent to fit.
It worked out well.

Yes, you don't want low beam from parking light. And your 74 has a low beam relay, earlier coupes don't. Run normal lines to lights, yellow is low beam, white is high. With H4 lows the white high beam wire goes back to the second filament in an H4 low beam. This is not used with the H1 low with city light, eliminate it. If still using H4 low make no changes. If using H1 low, jump the white and yellow wires in steering column at the white six lead connector. Run line from parking light city light in H1 low and you are done.

Thank you Chris,
there is no way i would be able to redo this car without all your help.
I really appreciate everyone's help.

I installed the airbox after setting the water lines, a tight fit to be sure,
i most likely need to add a bit to the inlet line.
finished the front end and aligned the light buckets with a bit of pulling and filing.
the car came stock with the hella fog lights, and holes in the bumper.
so i found another set that was without chipped lenses.
I was amazed to find even after moving over the booster its still a bit close.
I may have to run the car with a piece of dense foam at that point.
So since i installed new ac lines i have the oems if anyone needs them

Hello Alan. Your single handed dedication is remarkable and great fun to follow and your ways of communicating are invigorating!
I came across this German eBay, and each time I think of you and ofcourse all those running modern engines like yours. NMNA.
This company sells very cool looking real carbon air boxes for yours and other engines too.

"BMW E9 coupe CSL Carbon Airbox, S38 Motore 3.6 und 3.8 L, Brand-new".
Put in: eBay.de and look for BMW E9 CSL and the article# 232080900971. If you then click on 'Anderer Teile Aufrufen' (on the right side) you can see all the other stuff too.
I have no association nor dealings with those folks.
Enjoy looking thru all the cool stuff they produce, for BMW's, Benz, Porsche and they also make on order.
"Keep on rock in'
Keshav
