setting the inside trim it seems it was compressed from the polishing and the thicker headliner
so i trimmed a piece of oak as a wedge and tapped it along to open up the spacing
then it went on smoothly.
set the front headliner with copper rivets and had to crimp them really tight to get the trim over it
i went to put the roof handles on and on the 74 it needs a spacer behind the headliner
because 1" ahead is the projection for the seat belt bolt
if you were to not use a spacer the headliner would rip over the bolt place.
luckily i have the sunroof so i was able to open the zipper and hold them in place w/ my hand or i would have had to slice an opening to get them back there.
Set the front rivets w/ small washers so i wouldnt have to drill bigger holes
it seems im finally getting my harness back from the melding of the two so next week i can drop the motor.

so reset my front headliner to check some wiring and although it is held by the front seal the rivets only go thru the headliner itself
so i set some steel plates to make a firm connection
day two...
didnt like it so pulled it apart again and set the plates on each side w/
additional rivets
that will do it for good

finally got the upper window trim back from plating so set the window trim and felt and the rain gutter moulding
started at the top and snapped right in
adjusted the first piece of trim so there were no gaps against the window felt holder.

I am looking forward to how you fasten the leading edge of you gutter trim and more importantly a video of that engine roaring with open headers. Perhaps you could do a video of a few burn outs( no, not talking about Deadheads) when you fire it up.

yea i reset it setting the front edge first cause it was not aligned
thats the tricky part
getting the lenght right so the back will go on
i was a mm off at the front had to move it down then i didnt have to file the back edge
which was a good option if need be.

MY MOST IMPORTANT ASSEMBLY TOOL
are the grinded nail sets down to a fine point
ive used it everywhere to align all the trim and screw holes
made 4 and used them as pilot holders.

when they installed the original gutter it was set with a hard glue
so the center was a bit loose so i used weatherstrip adhesive
with a small clamp to reset it.

pics of setting the right side gutter trim
had to bend the pieces to fit also so the window would clear the new felt
the straightened it all out.

Hey Alan, a couple of tricks, first, if you have the old block and trans you may want to get an engine leveler and try to pass the block and trans in from the top- that way you will be sure you have the car high enough to guide the transmission in without damaging it. You'll probably need some kind of roller mechanism to rest the transmission yolk on as it moves rearwards. The box might work in Gumby's car but not the one you're building. It seems to be coming along quite well, I too am looking forward to the finished product-

set the final door strip
i set the piece in the door first then had to trim the others to align
so had to patch a bit at top on one side and bottom on the other
just used the extra bit of the top piece and trimmed it to look similar
finally cleaned up the engine bay so its ready for the engine.
since i dont need smog
i set the power buss where the old smog valves were
good spot
im going to have a whole week just to clean up all the mess's
im makin.

FRONT WINDOW HEIGHT
went to final adjust my window to align w/ the new weatherstrip and of course had to adjust the window
so new cottage industry
the reason the front window dont go down is the back bracket was designed to stop short
so pulled em drilled out the rivet half way and reset with rivets so it wouldnt hit the bottom of the door frame
im going to be very happy w/ my arm on the trim and not the friggin window.

Alan - you stated in another thread that you had lowered the windows below the trim. Is that front or rear windows, and can you post a picture of them in the new - lower - down position?

Thanks,

HERE IT IS ITS FLUSH W/ THE FRONT TRIM
BEAUTIFUL
as you can see the window is gone in the back
