OK - I am not going any further with this thread.

Alan- you have sent me TEN messages in two days.

I’m not the right person to help you with your project at this time.
Wendy and I spend our time traveling and skiing these days- I am not looking for any new projects at this time.

Best of luck to you.

yes indeed
thats exactly what my new setup will look like
so end of the beginning- started to pull the engine today
30 minutes wrench time and 2hours of setting up socket and wrench
configurations.
are those headers under there.
im going to find a set for the 635 im getting
so does it make a big difference using the 3 coil setup
instead of the dist cap?
also whats the best and economical way to have the
3carb setup?
is that custom intake plumbing?
or readily available -where?

Not entirely true. You are running wasted spark or sequential ignition (probably wasted spark). As you mentioned before, you have a motronic 60-2 toothed wheel and a crank position sensor. Some computer (likely in the glovebox) is driving your ignition. Said computer uses software to operate, and different software to tune. On top of that you are running an electric fuel pump.

I know you are running triples but isn’t a walk in the park to setup this type of ignition system. As you mentioned, you had a professional rally garage perform the work.

Busted... :D
yes, this is a little KMS ignition ECU which was programmed once by a "rallycars" garage... and never touched again.
We did runs on the dyno advancing timing 1° untill there was no gain .

But i had the top chain cover and distributor ( not yet that special nut ) in case it would give troubles.... it did not.

One can see it here mounted on the center console ....

and of course a low pressure electric fuel pump & filter/pressure regulator , but that is simple basic stuff.

SO NOW THE END OF THE BEGINNING. whops caps
so why dont people use the newer 3.5 l engines
instead of the ole 6 and 7 units from 85-87.
why not use a 80s or 90s units
anyway o the hunt for the 3,5 liter unit to drop in

Alan,

We have recommended several times that the following cars have the b35 motor with Motronic 1.3 to keep things simple:

e24 635CSi 88-89
e32 735i 86-92
e34 535i 87-92

1. Horsepower
2. Computer
3. Head design
4. Cam profile
5. Horsepower

The US M30B34 has a whopping 2 more horsepower than the 3.0 that you removed.
That is with significantly more displacement and fuel injection. I’m not sure if 70’s vs 90’s hp calcs come into play, but no matter what the M30B35 puts out almost 30 more HP than the M30B34. Both the M30B34 and the M30B35 have the same displacement of 3430cc.

Wait motor exactly? Your text above is a mashup of an M30B35 and an M90. An M30B35 has an 86mm stroke and puts out 208hp. An M90 has the 84mm stroke, big bore and puts out 218hp. I wouldn’t put an ‘87 head on an M30B35.

What happened to finding a running B35? You can’t afford tuning but you can afford a complete engine rebuild? So confused.

This is maddening @aearch. There are four different motors used in 635csi. If your friend has a $600 car for you, I can only presume it is a US M30B34. This is the least desirable of the four, and the one motor that everyone advised not to get. You can get a running B35 for $1,500 or less. If you were just going to drop a US M30B34 in there I would say go for it, but instead you are going to dump money into a $600 motor.

What year is the 635csi? Does it have “big bumpers” like your e9?

I think this thread will outlast the Ukraine war ...and me !
Suggest 100 Years War a better fit. The truly maddening thing is that there's 72 pages of good advice on all manner of things that pretty much has all been ignored. Do what you want. It's your car. Just don't come back asking for fixes to problems that your told how to avoid but ignored.
