Finally in June i started main bodywork.
Previous owner in his bodywork didn't treated e9 as it should be.
Someone welded parts like... i don't know how to call that:mad:.

At this photo you can see that wheel arch have proper flat edge.... take at next photo below....

Previous welder/owner because of too short rear right quarter couldn't fit trunk floor on the length, so he deciced to bend the arch & cut new floor panel instead of doing that proper way  now i have to remove his ugly welds partially destroying new floor panel

End of rear right quarter panel was NOS, but someone welded it in with about 5-7mm too short!!! Nothing didn't want to fit - rear light, right rear trim, even boot floor...

You can see the place where & how rear panel was cutted and welded by someone before. Poor quality welds with ton of tin.

To fit all rear panels properly - i needed to see exact condition of boot lid, so some paint bond removing.... almost 1mm bondo removing

i made some reference lines

and you can see that rear panel was also earlier welded by someone with wrong angle
20200727_110527.jpg

I started to cut old weld from inside (where it was more visible).

I could flatten the weld perfectly, but didn't want to take/grind any additional steel from panels.

After i finished with alternators also made tank full refurbishment.
At first it was sandblasted, then black satin outside powdercoated & after that inner part was treated with German TANKDOC equivalent to POR-15.
1. Degreased, 2. Rust remover/converter. 3. Paint was applied.
Final result is pretty good i think, after final drying paint look on really hard & resistant.

As you can see - timing setting came out very well.
20200915_123920.jpg

That difference in length of chains (left old, right new) can make timing out of specs, if you don't replace your chain with new one after cylinder head resurfacing or unproper thickness of head gasket. So always replace chain with new one!!!

Forgot to add in earlier post - oil pumps where also disassembled, cleaned/flushed, then gaps measured (all was in specs).

Made some measurements on MPS - below you can see the proper resistance on primary & secondary coil. Primary ca. 90ohm, secondary ca. 350ohm
Also MPS should be measured with vacuum meter, if it properly hold the pressure (both of mine hold). If i remember correctly - pressure can't be decresead more then from 15 to 14 in less than 10-12 seconds. If it less or = MPS is ok.

Mine old cold start thermoswitch was bad & one was missing, so i replaced them with new ones. I was curious to see how little termoswitch that cost 250eur/1pc look inside, so disassembled the old one - ridiculous, that they ask so much to pay for something like that.
20201124_210912.jpg

During disassembly before engine rebuild - one of oil dipstick tubes was damaged, so i have to fabricate one same size (made from stainless).

20201124_212026.jpg

also made some ultrasonic & pressure injectors cleaning (repeated several times).
20201024_164549.jpg

for my 12x injectors i made this little homemade thing

after pressure flush with sort of jet fuel - you can see what came from the inside of eacht injector.
That's why i repeated ultrasonic cleaning & flushing several times.

Didn't have any single tool in my toolbox, so decided to get them.
Still waiting for 10-11 open wrench (somewhere on it way from Germany/maybe already missing as it should be here last week).
Funny - for that big Heyco flat screwdriver i had to buy the whole set of 40x different screwdrivers.

Are those the H&R springs?
Yes, these are H&R e9 springs
Where did you buy 40 screwdrivers and how did you take mirrors apart?
I was in searching for tools (at that moment almost all was missing), was looking everywhere (ebay, local announcements, etc.) & found a guy from local german anouncements that was selling a set of old screwdrivers, i took a look on them & one was similar to the Heyco, at that time i thought even if it's not heyco it should work with colour & length. And at first when i didn't even know that it is Heyco, i asked the seller if he will sell this screwdriver separately - he replied that no, and only as a set, so i asked him to make o separate photo of the red one, he made & after that i knew it is heyco & it is worth buying a set. I paid 50 EUR for all & know i have these "red unicorn" & 39 other well made old German screwdrivers like Wiha etc. :) Only one red heyco was there, but that was ok for me;)

Work with mirrors is very tricky - i think the best way is to heat the whole mirror in hot water (put them there when it's not to hot & then gradually increase temperature) to soften the semi-plastic gaskets (i made that way when was back assembling them) & then pry with wide thin flat screwdriver all round. In one of the mirrors glass was missing, so i asked glass guy to cut a couple, one glass was broken during assembly, so i need to make one more.

Wow, thanks for your updates.
You covered a lot of work. The previous owner indeed messed things up with the bodywork in the back.
Thanks for taking me out of this strange world for 30 minutes, reading your post and looking at your pictures.
I don't know why but last couple months i am little bit broken, morales has fallen; have impression that nothing was done these year with e9. I wish it was little more, i wish whole body work was done.

It is strange world indeed;) but we all are in great need of it i think...

In the end no one will ask you how quickly you finished but they will look at the quality, which looks fantastic. You're doing a great job!
