Carpet Followup

Latest. Logistics become a bit more difficult, but I suppose doable. I personally am OK with prepaying the full amount to Cabrio and if others are willing to do same it would simplify the collection of funds from potentially remote / different sources (clubs, forums, etc.)

Another issue is lead time. I am in no hurry but this may not be the case for others.

Others thoughts?

Dear Mr. Britton,

thank you for your mail.

Several times we did Club orders before. The general problem is that people have to pay deposit and will get nothing for a longer period. Normally they will not trust any supplier, especially in far away Europe. So any respectful club member from your end should pre-collect the deposits and at the moment when enough orders have arrived the whole deposit amount will be paid to us and it would be a shorter period then until production can be started.

If we agree on 30 sets in blue we could calculate a price of around USD 420,- plus freight and USD 140,- for additional trunk mat and offer the same price for all sets in other stock loop colours which can be produced in this run. Due to formerly established new colours we must have 8-10 months for obtaining raw fibre, defining colours, dyeing an weaving process including all in-between controls and necessary corrections. Theoretically this could be done much faster, but due to the small minimum quantities we will have to stand always as the best in the queue.

We look forward to your message and remain with

best regards
K. H. Mayer

Dear Bluedevils,

The order is for the gray / blue carpet corresponding to the Navy interior.

er

i expected this, it is reasonable that they want the full ammount, i have no problem either in paying all in advance

the price seems to be very good (it is 310 euro, and i was told that as an individual the carpet was 375 euro) so it makes sense for a group buy it is atractive enough

as to the lead time, i see no problem in waiting eight months, the question is wether we will be able to join 30 cars, that is the key

last count on our forum says only 10 cars, we need to make a call to all forum members not everybody is aware of this, lets move it a bit !

i have another question for a group buy scenario ... because the pricing is quite a bit better - 420 vs. 600. can we get other (stock colors) for the better price? i know this doesn't help your 30 orders ... but anybody who needs carpet has to love saving 25%.

Have you guys considered contacting CoupeKing or Carl Nelson to see if they can help you get to your minimum ? I dont get the sense that they read the forums too much any more.

Sadly, this color doesnt work for my car.

hi david,

first, can you contact them ? are you or anyone in good terms with them ?

second, as to the colour the question to john, our contact guy, would be the following, do we need 30 cars in the new colour, or 30 in total considering existing colours ?

Hi Jesus,
I need to bring the car into Carl Nelson this week so Ill make him aware of this and direct him your way if he has interest. Maybe one of the LA guys can reach out to Peter at CoupeKing.

OK...trying to put a framework around this.

Dear K H Mayer

Thank you for the speedy response.

There has been quite a bit of correspondence on the potential purchase for carpet sets. The pricing is acceptable and for simplification on further discussions using the Euro is probably best as the orders may be coming from various places around the globe.

As a clarification I am not communicating for a Club, but as a member of an International forum on E9 BMWs. As such, the ability to collect funds for 30 sets as a Club and then forward will not be possible.

However, within a short amount of time we have strong interest in 11 sets of carpet. To make 30 sets we will need to reach out beyond this specific Forum to others who may own BMWs. This will include those who own different types; 2002s, E3s, E12s etc. where the carpet matching the Navy interior applies. This will be to Forums / Clubs / Businesses. It will be an International outreach.

The initial reaction to the 8-10 month lead time frame does not seem an obstacle. And, the idea of deposits against the price of the carpet set, even though an overseas supplier, has not been negatively received.

I would suggest the following clarification and strategy to allow this potential order to proceed.

Identify specific price for the interior carpet set in Euros. Again these may be for models other than the E9.

Identify specific price for the trunk carpet in Euros. These may be for models other than the E9 as well.

Identify the amount of deposit required

Brief statement as to the intended product, i.e. carpet to match OEM BMW carpet for Navy interior (blue / gray).

Establish a specific order number / reference for this purchase to allow all who are interested to communicate with you directly with clarity. It would appear reasonably simple to then communicate to all via mass email on when the 30 set mark has been reached and then updates on production timeframe.

If acceptable, please compose a short outline of the above with company / individual contact information. We may then proceed to distribute to others.

Based on initial response I am optimistic on a positive outcome for all. Your attention to this is greatly appreciated.

If it would appropriate for us to communicate directly on the phone on the above, please forward the best number to reach you on.

Very Best Regards,

Sorry, and can work with them....damn iPad.

Proximity may be very helpful in making this happen.

This may be a reach to put this together. The ultimate order will by necessity come from many sources. Your contacting Cabrio as a local presence may help.

Thanks

John

Add me to the list. Not going to let a one off run pass me by. Thanks for spearheading this.

Where are they located? Phone number? It is easy for folks to wire euros to Germany.....I can walk you through the process...

I can link this thread and post it on the BMW202faq forum but they won't be able to post here unless joining. Probably best to have an e-mail address to reply to?

Hi Chris

Thanks. Let me see if I get a response from Cabrio on my last email. Would like to have some clarity around what we are up to so hopefully will be easily understood by others.

I will then compose a note that may be used to drop into other forums / clubs etc.

No response yet to my last communication to Cabrio.

Attempted to call this morning, Left a message with an employee of H K Mayer ...no return call.

Another email to them tonight. Hoping they can buy into the program.

Partially interested in the cost of the carpet run independent of the fabrication. May be another way to go about this if we don't get a positive response.

Keep everyone posted.

John

lets see what turns out, john
your request was a bit complex, so they will need time to analyse
best

Yea maybe...and I am hope you are right.

But, I still have to think this is a sweet deal for them if we show up. Don't see a scenario where we simply drop a check on them and if not they have to have some ownership.

Still optimistic. Wait and see.

John

I had a very good conversation with H K Mayer this morning. He is very interested,in fact his wife has a coupe he would like to put this carpet in.

He took some time to describe what the process entails and to get a limited carpet run in the matching fibers will take some time and patience. He does have other sources which would be interested in this carpet run, such as BMW Classic, and will appropriately augment our potential order.

He has done custom orders before which have ultimately proved to be quite popular and commercially sucessful. My take away is he believes the two toned carpet for the Navy interior will be popular as a match does not currently exist. As expected, one concern is the shelf life of the run for unsold quantities. Interestingly his time frame is 10 years.

Very positive discussion, he will do further research and get back to me.

John
