I have just purchased a 3.0cs (european). I`ve started to restore it but bumped into a major problem. The VIN has been completely erased from the metal panel located near the windshield, next to the passenger`s side front shock absorver. One can still read both the initail and final "+" sign, but no numbers in the middle. I need this number in order to know what year it was manufactured, what is the original color, and other relevant information. The engine is an M30 but the number does not belong to a 3.0cs (according to realoem, it belongs to a 1976, 525cs). Is there another place where BMW engraved the VIN??? I live in Quito, Ecuador, where things like this are not unusual. In fact, the car is legaly registered under an invented VIN.
