Grill Badge - E9Coupe.com

Scott: really nice photo of my left C-Pillar roundel! What type of camera did you use?

Who brought up the concept of "tacky" anyway?

Phil Marx from my28.com was kind enough to share some his experience with me on using BMW logos. Basically, BMW does like it. More importantly, they don't like people "modifying" it. They do have logo police but I suspect that they have more important things to do like like terrorizing small animals than to bother with us.

We must not let this discourage us. However, we will need to find a suitable design or adopt a "damn the torpedoes" attitude and move forward doing what makes us happy.

I think the following themes would be safe:

I like the #1 outer with the flying bat inner from #4. Ccould we do the headlamps in orange?

The notion of preservation is great, but we collectively are:

preservationists (too long),
conservators (not bad)
stewards (OK),
Keepers of the flame ( a little hokey and presumptuous),...

How about E9-Evangelists? E9-Curators??

Better? We can easily have 4 colors. ...If you have the badge you are an E9 Curator (singular?).

When I saw the latest badges part of the song from the original Italian Job, Micheal Caine et al went through my mind

....We are the Self Preservation Society.....

could be

....We are the E9 Preservation Society.....

Sorry I do some work now

I like the design, but I still think the badge should show our membership and participation to this particular community, as other unknowing coupe owners could think it came from the Registry, rather than here.

Plus, given how many people are doing Motronic and 3.5 conversions, (guilty :D ) we aren't exactly "preserving" the coupes, we are resto-modding them.

looking good.
I would prefer the lights stay non colored and use the other color availability on the coupe body color. Perhaps red car and black surround. black car and red surround? Coupe in the chrome, with black surround. Green, inka, yellow. Inka coupe with black might be stunning.
We have colors available, use them. Would a 5th color be to cluttered?
BMW blue and white are mandatory, but we have lost the propeller usage.
The designs you all have come up with are very good.

Maybe we need three different badges...

Curator (for those of us who are trying to preserve the coupe)

Resto-Mod (for those not so concerned about originality)

Rusto-Mod (a special category for Malc, Chicane, and others with the tinworm affliction)

I think you should have to submit your car for an inspecton and the "inspection and adjudication committee" will decide what badge you get..They will meet once per year inthe British Virgin Islands to drink beer and, um adjudicate... Shipping can be arranged..

Jeez, this sounds like a freaking nightmare!

How about we create an unofficial arm of this group (e9Coupe.com), called the "E9 Preservationists" or "E9 Guardians"? We could set up a new category in the forum, and use "E9 Preservationists" (or Guardians) on the badge.. the plural denoting membership in a group. That would seem to address the group element, and preservation can take many forms (although we will want to exclude that guy who soldered a Bavaria back end on his E9..)

I like the most recent design from JJ with one of these titles...

I prefer #4 also.
The E9 shown is obviously a Bat and most (but not all) of the 167 road Bats were either Chamonix (White) or Polaris (Silver) because the (early color) Motorsport stripes were offered as a no cost option on these two colors.

For those interested in the source file for the art:

It did have the Motorsport stripes but I don't think this one is stock
It seems this image / art is reasonably well received (less colors). I will play around with it a bit. I created the art by placing the image as a Background in PowerPoint and tracing over the lines. I then saved bold lines into a GIF and used a photo tool to fill color into regions and create transparent background. All in all only a few minutes. I can easily dress it up a bit. Also, if anyone want the source files for anything I'm posting just let me know (PM) and I'll send them along via email.
For the Inka/black request:

Anyone with photo suggestions to build art from please post. Also, I would still like to find a real M30 cam gear image. I'll check my files and maybe scan one but any help would be most welcome.

This style theme does lose the propeller. However, we were headed for a potential trademark battle with BMW. I htink something like the above is pretty safe from such a battle. It does at least play on the C-Pillar roundel base them.

Any comments on "E9 Afflicted" with the small www.e9coupe.com reference? How about a subtle FeO reference (iron oxide)? or Fanatic e9 Owners?

Grille Badge-E9Coupe.com

The badge development looks like its coming along rather handsomely to me. I think were just about 75% done with this design. Sorry I've not had to time to add my own creative design 2 cents...but I do have thought or two on what we have so far.

My vote, thus far goes to badge as depicted by jj's 8:31 2:28 am post. However, I would change 1) the top of the badge from "e9 afflicted" to "e9 preservationist", 2) move the e9 coupe url from the top of the coupe to the bottom black area, in a u shaped cursive. 3) Not a huge deal, but possibly try using red as the car color to combine a classy look to the aggressive posture depicted..having just a bit of trouble with the orange. After all, the coupe being shown doesn't have to be a Bat, but perhaps a CSI, if the wing disappears. 4) Have the font used in the e9 text and years text be a raised/beveled chrome.

Well, those are my two cents...

Chuck

Curator?? Preservationist?? Come on, you guys are DRIVERS of this beautiful machine, not directors of a foundation. How about something with a little more machismo, understated elegance, or camaraderie?

E9 DRIVEN, E9-ZUERST M (FIRST M), E9- 6 TIME ETC CHAMPION, E9-HEMI, E9-UNION

My two cents. Help me out here guys.

Ed does have a point. Afflicted is better than preeeservationists (makes us sound like a bunch of old women sitting around quilting.. when in my experience we are a bunch of old men who, when together, sit around drinking beer...)

Some alternatives to Afflicted (a little medical..sounds like a bad rash, or a locust storm):

Fanatics
Lunatics (I sort of like this one!) Seems especially applicable to Malc (!)
Obsessed
or,

Lunatic E9 Fringe (that would put the E9 near the top of the badge!), and it seems to describe the bulk of us...

I lke the e9Coupe.com, but I think if you put it on the bottom it will mess up the cool pavement that sneaks outside the ring (nice touch JJ).

Personally, I prefer the white Bat over the Inka one, but I could grow to like it. Inka is a sort of lunatic color anyway... (who said that?); What if we did Inka as the background with a white Bat? THAT would look cool.

What are you implying :? I think you must of been talking to my long suffering wife :D

As an aside I know somebody here in the UK who could produce a small run of the window sticker and or the badge, once finalised, at a reasonable price, is it worth considering, as well as grill mountable badge?

How about E9 Afflicted??

My thoughts exactly! Sort of like a bad case of carriage rust or a mental disorder that causes one to "fail to beg off in the interest of reality or practicality."

I have a cam gear lying around, so I can take a pic of it later for you
That would be great! I should be able to find one in a manual somewhere. I may also create one in AutoCAD if I get inspired.

I'll try to work up a RED car on TBD background and a White car on Inka background in a bit.

I'm with Ed G on the name. Something with machismo and a bit of lunacy.
Maybe in the spirit of Right Said Fred: "Too SIXy for my Coupe"

It would be best not to have too many letters, 15 tops, for best overall look.
