If my car was produced and delivered in January 1974, (a CS from factory), should for instance the seats bolstering be with vertical or horizontal stripes? Any other stuff (like electric side mirror) I should look out for when gathering trim etc parts that changed on these cars or were the changes later on? I've seen discussions about wiper blades, grilles, kidneys etc, but it is all a bit of a blurr at the moment still :)

OK, so I have received a reply from BMW Archives stating they do not have any info about the options.

So, the questions remain - what where the changes over time 1972-1974...

My rear seats are leather and from the earlier years with vertical stripes. Fronts are with horisontal stripes, so newer style.
Rear seats are beige leather, the armrests black. Front seats blue cloth. Door cards are black, but not with the diagonal? fishtail or similar pattern but perforated...
Carpet is some strange version I have not seen on other cars - see my first posts...

Looking at the color charts from other topics, I understand Inka's were "by default" equipped with black leather interior, perforated pattern K0005. I presume this is true to both the seat middle parts... and door cards? Was this dotted vs fishtail a change that was made in 1974 maybe? I see both on other's cars and thought at first the perforated ones were aftermarket.... It is a real shame the doorcards from WN and worlduph.com only come with the fishtail pattern. Am I overthinking :)?

BTW... Has anyone done a black perforated headliner on their's? Anyway, it seems it would be a safe bet to go with all black interior which in my mind suites the Inka very well.

The facelift Modell 73/US MY74 coupes have perforated material on upper doors cards, horizontal pleats on seats. Vinyl (BMW leatherette or skai) had embossed center sections, to my knowledge leather was never perforated. Euro coupes could have cloth/velour, vinyl and rarely leather. Changes to US/NA market coupes are described here, it doesn’t cover euro interior changes. I would think that Inka in Europe was black vinyl mainly but who knows.

I just spent a good amount of time looking through some 50+ cars on BaT. If I am not mistaken, the "perforated"-dotted door panels came in 1974. All 1975 cars have them, most 1974 cars have them and only a few cars listed 1973 have them.

The perforated door cards are only on the 9/73 and later Euro Modell 73 and equivalent US Model Year 74.

Does anyone know a supplier for the perforated material or even whole late model door cards?

Meanwhile the original 16" staggered Alpinas arrived and were refurbished + as of today, the car and first batch of parts (body) is sent off to the "coachbuilder". After years of sitting in storage, my E9 was again enjoying fresh air, on a trailer :)

I will not be doing the work myself, but am more than grateful for any feedback and critics you will find in the coming months by the photos I will upload. I aim for perfection (as much as possible) and thus could correct some "mistakes" as we progress :)

Although it was the last days of May already when the car was sent off to the bodywork, there is something to report for the first month.

Progress for May:
a)
dolly welded up, car aligned and levelled to it. The extra feet under the dolly are for levelling it and help with taking various measurements.

b) a thorough list of additional misc small metal parts needed from W&N also made, total 32 items and ca. 2500EUR.
I will dig through the stuff I still have boxed up at home, and maybe with a bit of luck, there are some parts already there :)

I’m not familiar with this special “bob tail” version of the e9. I wish you good luck and continued financial prosperity- you will need both

Not too much progress to report for june and july. Vacations and finishing a house build + moving all the E9 parts and my other cars there…

I finally dug through all the boxes and will send more parts off to the welder tomorrow.

Just for reference points and it might be useful when playing with the engine upgrade, axles etc, we made a laser scan of another restored E9 bare shell. Will scan more parts later on too.

Ps! “S 40” marked on the diff means I have a 40% lock LSD diff? 3,45 ratio probably ?

I found the other markings too further back on the diff - 11 38

oil smells like the LSD one, inside does not look quite like the ones on E30s etc that I am familiar with. Casing number is 12243302800 31A 69

Open the vent on top and have a look inside, if it looks like the first attached picture it's likely an LSD.
With a little struggle you can actually read what the housing is stamped with through the vent hole. Check second attached picture to see what you're looking for.

There are LSD housings that say S0 / S25 / S40.
If you have the S0, it's not an LSD, but an open diff that uses the LSD housing (from factory).
