Removed the starter. Took 15-20 minutes to get it out. Waiting for the new one to arrive since the original has a worn solenoid.
That's nice to have a couple choices or in my case it would have been really nice to swap out when I damaged on or the other. My Bavaria Alpina-Style air dam got damaged so much I called it my $10K Dollar Air Dam. As much as I paid my neighbor to fix it, it probably added up that much over the years. And I thought I was careful but going fast on back roads that aren't in great shape and crowned if you don't hit the turn just right and make split second decisions, one wrong decision and BLAMO!I 100% support driving it to the grocery store. We need to see these cars out and about. One great thing about driving a beautiful classic car is that it brings a smile to people’s face when they see it - you get a thumbs up in acknowledgement, they’re happy, it’s like a win-win
Have been refinishing my air dam which had gotten a bit beat up prior to my owndership of the car. Body filler, sanding done, painting this weekend. The car came with this 635-style as well as a CSL one, going to take a few of the ideas here to make them easily swappable - 4 bolts to remove bumper and then two push-release bolts to drop the air dam.
Thanks, 1983 Base, it was Nick's when he started driving. The timing belt failed years ago.like the guards red 944. is that yours? is a base 944, 944s, 944s2 or 944 turbo?
I heard these 944's/928's are expensive to maintain, is that true? I would think it is less than a 912/911 as you wouldn't need to drop the motor for certain repairs like you have to do with the air cooled. Thanks, 1983 Base, it was Nick's when he started driving. The timing belt failed years ago.
I started working on it in September and it has been back on the road a couple weeks. I would rather work on a BMW any day.

Parts are certainly more expensive as most seem to be OEM. I bought a rebuilt head several years ago and it works well. It sat for a long time which doesn't help. Probably the biggest issue is that this is the only Porsche I have ever worked on.I heard these 944's/928's are expensive to maintain, is that true? Wow that Beru is a lot cheaper than the Bosch - wouldn’t have thought that $30 gets you a brand new ignition coil. And have fun with the pressure regulator rebuild, did that last week, at least one of the easier things to do on the car - nice that the kit has all of the right parts. I didn’t have a press to get the spring back under tension so just used two longer m5 bolts through 2 of the 4 holes to begin to bring the two halves together enough that the supplied bolts could then attach, then swapped out those two longer boltsThis week I've received the Pressure Regulator Repair Kit from PMB for the rear brakes and a new blue ignition coil. I chose a Beru instead of Bosch because the Beru is German made and oil filled and I've seen statements that the Bosch blue coil is no longer made in Germany and may not be oil filled. And it was half the cost. It's good to have a spare.
Hello Dic, what is your experience in driving with PU bushings? Can you explane it.I swapped my front & rear sway bar bushings from W&N rubber to PU, as the "old ones" started to show cracks after just six years. Updated hardware to new yellow-zinced material on stock with W&N. Finished with a light coating of transparent wax on the metal parts to keep them clean. Compared to other E9 activities, not the hardest task, takes some time and patience, but not too fiddly. I do notice a difference in behavior and ride with the PU bushings.
First impression it's a firmer ride and better handling. That is the added benefit, my main motivation was that the rubber bushings got quite soft and worn after just six years/25.000 km, so replacing them like for like was not an option.Hello Dic, what is your experience in driving with PU bushings? I am still busy whith the restoration and the W&N bushings are not placed yet
Something like this: https://www.histomondial.de/e9.htm
At least the mounting is easier. .
Did you buy the yellow or red or black ones from strongflex (great web site https://www.strongflex.eu/en/1644-e3-e9-68-77 ). I go also for this easy mounting 2-pieces bushings instead of the „originals”. The originals will damage the nicely restored and painted parts.First impression it's a firmer ride and better handling. The shop you linked is also on Ebay, but has very low rations in being non-responsive. I had submitted an order via their website and then asked to amend it with additional items. Never got a response. As they ask for bank transfer in advance, the deal never happened.
I went with another seller on Ebay (https://www.ebay.at/str/alhafnertuning) and was satisfied with their quality and also used bushings from Strongflex in Poland (https://www.strongflex.eu/). Good quality, very fast shipping.
