Are the individual lenses for the tail light assemblies available somewhere to purchase ? Thank you in advance ! Love this thread !

I believe there is no lenses for sale separately. They could be made though - maybe 3d printed.

Great thread! Please keep it going. I hope to finish my e9 next week when Don comes out to tune the megasquirt, then I'm bringing in the 3.0si for a full restoration!! A lot of work but I think much less complicated than the e9 build as I'm keeping it mostly original.

Good luck with E3 project!! Open a thread like you suggested me ;)

Update on my tail light re-chroming. I finally got test frame back from chroming. Lenses I removed fit back very good and very firm and with some glue job will be done.

I am happy with result so I will proceed with restoring a pair of lights. Hopefully I won’t destroy any lenses now.

Price for new grills is crazy so I sandblasted both plastic mask grills to see all the cracks. All cracks were welded and missing parts were added. Plastic will be repainted in black. If they will look bad I will buy new ones.

Plastic on my taillights is nice but chrome is not so nice. I decided to get taillight in bad condition (thanks to @Stan ) to learn the process of removing plastic lenses before trying on my taillights. They went out OK clean with no damages. I will have now frame re-chromed to see how lenses fit back in. If I will be happy I will do same work on my taillights.

Lenses that weren’t already broken came out with no damage.

We used grinder since it has small rpm and plastic doesn’t melt when cutting.

When I get back frame from re-chroming I will see how lenses fit back and find best way to glue them back in.

Excellent work! I hope I can find a good contact in Germany to redo all of my chrome as well. Looks great

Does this number 4039 under Karmann karosserie platte have any meaning?
