Just do whatever simple to get the thing running
If it was so simple cheap and quick, it would have been running years ago. Megasquirt tuning and what appears to be electrical issues take time and expertise. You don't find those down in the parking lot at Home Depot.
Agreed. I don’t think there is a simple fix for Alan’s motor. He hasn’t been able to turn the motor with a myriad of starters and batteries. He chose to go with a complicated EMS that requires special knowledge and equipment to tune. He built his own wiring harness, and per his observation, multiple parties have expressed the need to “go through it”.
I’ll beat a dead horse and say that simple fix is to drop a functioning carbureted M30 in there. He could likely obtain one on the board for free. Installation is “in his wheel house” or that of any shadetree mechanic. I highly doubt that any board member wants to help Alan triage wiring and Link tuning on freshly built motor issue that won’t turn over. However, I’m sure he can scrounge up a few gear heads to help guide a long block in.
@aearch, You don’t need to dump the motor. Build or buy an engine test stand. Tinker, while your car is enjoyable and dare I say it sellable. It’s an easy task for a hobbyist welder. You could build one safely out of 4x4 posts.
One last thing. I know that some will argue that megasquirt is ancient technology. Still, you can’t throw a rock in California without hitting a 20yo that has run it on his drift car. Also, you can purchase a stim to simulate your motor while you play around with the base tune. This is before ever hooking it up to your motor.
@aearch this is something you can do inside with the AC running with zero risk. This may not translate to a running car, but the combination of a stand-mounted motor, crowd sourced megasquirt knowledge, your own megasquirt tinkering could net you a better result. You could pickup a megasquirt 2, a stim, and get a working m30, for like $1,500 bucks. All this while having a drivable, sellable car.
Assembled JimStim! Simulates multiple crank trigger wheels, easy breakout access to all signals, excellent testing and prototyping tool!
