Chamonix 3.0CS Restoration

Trunk is done so I am tackling the dreaded wiring issues under the dash. Everything works except hazard and turns and I have several melted ground wires. I added a ground to one of those wires, replaced fuse #4 and wunderbar, they both work. This was after opening up a lot of the harness. I will replace melted grounds where I can and assess the others. Even with the dash out it is very hard to get to some of them like the main load shed relay which is nearest the firewall which has a ground wire issue. You can see one of the melted brown wires.

I will replace headliner this weekend so I also checked dome light wires which went nowhere as the PO never installed the header panel. I should be able to get rear windshield in as well and I pick up my wood tomorrow. Moving faster than I initially thought but we will be in Europe May 1st thru 23rd. It will definitely be at Legends this year!

Got my visors mounted using Frankie’s alu bases which I painted SEM Ranger White. I used a 2002 spring as it is shorter and on one I threaded the post for an m6 nut, the other one I kept that terrible spring clip/cup. Tip: to remove that cup I put the post in a vise and used wire cutters and a screwdriver to pry and leverage the cup up. Headliner is in along with dome light and mirror. My coupe came with no header panel or visors and dome light as a result so back to original. Time to reinstall trims above the side windows and then the upper door seal.

I have probably spent eight hours just installing the trim above the windows and below the drip rail. The piece that fits over the edge of the headliner needs at least 5mm and I had to open all four up with a plastic body tool. Then the four flat pieces mount to the roof. After that, the rear quarter felt channel holder goes in and then the the rubber holding channel from center of roof down to bottom do A pillar. I will keep the forward lower section loose for when I install the dash. Barney knows what I am going through! All of the pieces were polished and I then shot gloss clear ceramic on them a few weeks ago.

My IG is private, hbchris1952, you can request approval to follow but you might be bored. I post family, beer and BMWs primarily. And Chris, Chester might need some help as he has no thumbs.

After three weeks in Europe I needed to get back to work on the coupe so I tackled the dash shelf. I had installed the wood to the shelf but could not get it to fit on to the metal dash itself so I removed the driver side wood, test fit was good, so I had to redrill holes for the tiny screws that holds the wood to the shelf. Another three hours of frustration that now fits fine, nothing is easy.

I also painted the rocker covers which look brand new and installed the rocker trims. I was able to reuse the plastic clips but I would never use new ones, they just don’t snap on like the originals. And I used OCCoupe’s method to paint the steering column cover and the a/c panel with chip guard, it came out great.
