the windows are not moving to the top when doors are shut. They can't seem to figure it out. Any input is appreciated. I replaced all motors with e24 motors installed by Bill Arnold in SF shortly before the car was brought in, along with door alignment. At the end of the day, if Benny can't get this done right, I will find someone who can. I don't think it is the end of the world. If you have any input, let me know.

The window motors are "addicted" to their input of voltage. Your alternator is weak and delivers only 12 instead of 14V. So first get a new alternator, and then complain about the motors if they still don't perform as desired.

Was the change to the other motor type (e24) made together with the recommended mods for the power supply? (so seperate power line from batterie to the motor and the switch runs additional relais for up and down). So let Benny also check out how much of voltage comes to the power line. Maybe the switch "robbs" some electrons due to higher resistance.

Extremely helpful information. I am not sure whether the other mods were done by Bill Arnold in San Francisco last year but I will check.
 
I do acknowledge that I have a lot more choice of classic car shops than you do in Idaho.

I think it's been acknowledged by most people here that Scott is doing the best he can with limited choices. The shop is willing to learn and work with him on those issues so he's way ahead of others that have had classics worked on. Barry, on this forum, needs a small patch welded on his trunk lid and a reputable body shop in town told him to hit the road, they weren't interested. Insurance job too.
 
Ok where to start?

Windows, lower the rear window, close the door then raise the drivers window. If it goes to the top it is most likely the adjustment for the rear window. Remove panel and bring the lower adjusters outboard, just a hair. Tighten and test. 1/8 inch will make a difference.

Front window. Door panel off try to adjust the rear rail adjuster so the top of the window moves outward. This will bring the top of the window inward. Make only minor adjustment then test. You can also adjust the shim at the top of the door.

If the window front does not go the top when the rear window is down then it’s the stopper on the window mechanism. One is a rubber stopper and the other is a metal slide stopper. Again small adjustments. You don’t want the top of the window to go beyond the gasket at the top of the window sill. It’s supposed to sit bellow the top part of the gasket.

Lower trim, is this the belt line trim? If so send it all out to speedway. Make sure Benny is prepared to carefully bend them back in to shape once they’ve been polished. Do the tail panel where the license plate sits at the same time. Also rain gutters.

Alternator. With the car off take the voltmeter and check for voltage at the terminals. A good battery should be around 12.5 volts +-. Turn the car on and report to the voltage to us. Should be closer to 13.9 volts.

The al45x should be fine for your needs.

New rain gutters are available from W/N and unlike belt trim, they fit... cheap too, assuming you need some other bits to help with the shipping cost.

The one thing that appears unresolved is Benny continues to struggle with getting the metal at the base of the main windows to stay down. He spoke with Carl Nelson and apparently the clips available are too long and the glue is not holding them down. Frankly, I don't understand how the clips Carl recommended don't work, but will dig more into this. I suspect I may take the vehicle even if this and minor other things, e.g. windows, are not done and have Bill Arnold in SF or some specialist assist in doing these last bits rather than insisting that Benny do it, although I think he would continue to try. All the information on the windows is very helpful.

New alternator arrives on Thursday. Do you think Benny should swap this out, or a mechanic.

Overall, I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results of Benny's work. The paint looks AMAZING, and he is addressing all the fisheyes, etc. early next week, so it will even look better then.

Two comments - on the clips, all of us have problems with incorrect fitment of replacement parts. They are frequently not manufactured to the original specification and can vary from batch to batch. We just need to work around this.

I don't know much about Benny, but replacing an alternator is a very easy car repair.
 
Could not be more excited. I went to drop off the new alternator just now. I recorded these 2 videos. The first one is a bit long,

while the second one is shorter and shot in 4K

In person, the car, especially the paint looks unbelievable. Benny, Gary and Rocco are doing it RIGHT! They are addressing all my concerns, and finding some of their own too. We are still wrestling with the windows a bit, but hopefully with the alternator that will solve things, otherwise we will revert to your instructions above.

I am really very happy with the results. As you can tell from the video, I'm super excited to get the car on the road, but I'm not going to rush it. Now it is just a matter of a few more days.

Thanks yet again for all your help here in this special forum. I really do appreciate it, and apologize again for over-sharing, but I'm just super excited.

It appears that you are missing the factory torsion bar to support your hood? You shouldn't need a piece of wood to hold it up. If so, you can either locate a used torsion bar for your hood or try to find the factory CSL hood prop (perhaps a replica if they are made). A good winter project...
 
Have Les Schwab try to find the leak. If it's leaking in the rim/center/barrel sandwich, then it'll need the tire removed and re-silicone bead done.

I never had a torsion bar. Usually stays up normally when I just set the hinge properly. I will add this to the ever-growing list of minor little things I have to address after this is done. If you have a link or a source for something I should get please share otherwise I will search. Thanks. What do you think of the progress?

You should definitely have a prop or the torsion bar. No comment on the progress. I haven't watched the videos yet (but will).

Did you have a hard time deciding on the front spoiler? Looks like you decided to go with the one that tucks under the bumper?

I would love to get a dual head exhaust tip like this. I know it is not. Period Correct or correct to the vehicle but any thoughts are appreciated. If not this, what do you recommend? Going to search for exhaust tips to see if there is a thread on show us your version of those.

Thanks for your interest and I appreciate the encouragement on the videos. I think it was a fun way to document the process that others might appreciate. I think there are lots of people out there like me looking at the value of these cars going up and having no mechanical experience and wondering what the process is of getting a "simple paint job" that turns into something a little more.

Good question about the spoiler. Frankly, I didn’t give any thought to it whatsoever. I just bought the coupe king CSL spoiler. I didn’t even look at the pictures very carefully. I just bought it. I was worried about whether I’d like it.

I like it a lot although I am not really sure what to do with the square holes that are underneath. Fog lights would look stupid. Thoughts?

Sorry to bother everyone, but wondering if anyone has any thoughts on alternator.
Benny hooked up the new one, and still not generating ANY power whatsoever. It's odd that the brushing thingy I ordered didn't fix, replacement didn't fix. Could there be something else causing this problem? I am trying to return the alternator to ebay seller, but I have to imagine that there is something that Benny might be missing. I asked him and he said it is very straightforward to install alternator, and they are measuring voltage right from alternator itself and no increase in voltage.

Just got this from ebay seller: Hello,
"we accepted the return request. We just wanted to let you know most mechanics forget to attach the ground cable on these units, it will cause it not to charge. Also if the dash lights has been converted to LED bulbs it will not charge either."

Benny did ground it, but we did change to LED lights in dash as recommended here but didn't know that it would impact alternator. Any ideas how to resolve??? Thanks.
