Now to decide top or bottom bolt style.
I like the red. Suppose I could paint the top bolt one. ....???
The stock B35 oil filter has a check valve in it. I would make sure there is one in the oil filter you use. I had a top bolt filter with no check valve and it took a while to get oil pressure when I started the motor. I changed to a filter with the internal check valve and the situation improved significantly.

The oil filter I mounted is from an 83 533i
An m30b32 oil filter canister.
What do you think about that one ?
I believe the top of the filter body that mounts to the block has one.

I just did this. I used a top bolt unit from Mike and plugged the hole in the block. When I start the engine it takes about three to four seconds for the oil light to go off when cold.

It should have the check valve. You can see it in this picture. It's the little valve inside the hole. You can also see where I drilled and tapped a hole for my oil pressure gauge.

Yes I’m sure the filter housing I used has this. I’ll double check.

I don't know these cars well so take this with a grain of salt but...that looks like that could be a bypass valve in case the filter is clogged so that unfiltered oil will bypass the filter and continue oiling.

This goes along with my thinking that a filter with the oil inlet and outlet at the top shouldn't need a check valve. My oil light goes off in about the same amount of time with the new housing versus the old '69 housing. Maybe the check valve is there in case the oil can get siphoned back through the pump?

Here's what it looks like without the check valve. The bypass valve is inside the big chamber.
