What did you do to your E9 today?

Started the painting of my engine bay (as detailed in another thread). Laid down two coats of RustBullet to counteract the rust areas that were present and hopefully prevent future rust. Tomorrow is priming, seam sealing and topcoat of engine bay and wheel wells

Very clean looking. That dry ice work really has provided a nice surface for this painting project. Being end of February, I note BC and the PNW can still rain pretty well at this time of year, but I see you have a window. Plus, even at the prevailing temperatures, that RustBullet will work. Great timing! It is tough to wait until June to do painting touchups. ;)

Finished painting the engine bay, the wheel wells, the hood underside and all of the various hood bits and pieces. Quite a job but moved quickly once I got going. Peeling off the tape was a bit nerve-wracking - I wish I had thought to soften it with heat gun before I started pulling as I had one area where the tape pulled off a bit of the exterior paint, which suggests maybe whomever had painted it last hadn’t necessary done the most top-notch job. Anyways, all good and now the reassembly begins!

I’m developing a serious case of you-might-as-well. The radio change has turned into fixing the clock which led to changing the bulbs in the instrument panel and now maybe I will go ahead and change the expansion valve on the evaporator since It’s Just Right There…

Is this going to be a complete respray? Or just tidying up the engine bay?
Just repainting the engine bay, wheel wells and hood underside. The exterior of the car is fairly good - some small chips etc but I don’t have the skill to do the exterior myself and don’t have the funds currently to have someone else do it. At least now the car looks fairly uniform. It’s not perfect, there is a slight color difference between the 15-20 year old exterior paint and the engine bay Polaris silver but again, you would have to look carefully to see it.

I'm impressed that you are tackling all that yourself. Yeah, I don't think that minor paint color difference between exterior and engine bay will matter.
I had my coupe down to sfdon's shop a year ago for engine bay refurbishment (and many other mechanical fixes). What a transformation!

You will love the result, I predict. Best of success with the project!

now that it has warmed up a bit, i've gone back to finish the dynamat on the interior of the car. flat pieces are easy - cutting to fit all of the curves on the firewall + tranny tunnel is a real challenge. lots of paper templates drawn + cut to fit ... at least close.

That rabbit hole only goes one way...I started with "maybe I'll change the transmission to 5-speed" and now have an engine out with a whole bunch of new parts to put in. Careful where you go, it's a long dark forest out there.

very true ... the 'while you are in there, you might as well do this ...' that list NEVER gets shorter, only longer. the good news is that you will only make your coupe better for it and you will rarely say a few years later, i wish i had done this while i was there.

After a 12 month search I recently found the lever I was missing for the E24 seats I am using, so finally fitted that. Came all the way from Las Vegas, so it's travelled a bit - Germany, Las Vegas, Manchester ....

Also, while writing a (very) belated thank you to Thomas (@TomHom) for the extra bits of original carpet and the fan cover plate - now restored and fitted too.

Also replaced the hazard switch that managed to activate while the car was in the garage on its own, running the battery flat, but recharged OK and no damage done.

Aired out the cooling system after a change from fan clutch gen 1 to 4. Had the dual pulley modified to fit the new pump and changed the thermostat housing, thermostat and radiator hoses as well.

Next up is a bit of fiddling with the right hand front window.

The insured season starts March 15, so I'll have to make the coffee myself for the next nine or so days.

Looks like you have a restored early Hazet Assistent. They are scarce this side of the Pond. I've found a newer one here in Texas but it doesn't have the seat or lamp.

I removed front calipers and rotors in preparation for rebuilding the calipers and putting in new rotors and pads. I think the PO had more recently replaced the pads but the calipers were really gummed up and the rubber just completely tore away as I removed the pistons. Will sandblast, zinc plate and then powder coat while I wait for seal kits to arrive this week.
Also cerakoted my exhaust manifolds after sandblasting them this morning since they were looking fairly rusted over. Since the engine is on the stand I’ve have been cleaning up parts of it, essentially everything short of taking it apart. Front/rear main seals, valve cover refresh and new gasket, etc. The manifolds are looking good and are now extra-protected.
