Thanks for the replay.

I have tried different lengths of spring and might now have the one I want to run with. There is not much clearance

I researched the front tyre width as I had a set of Alpina 17" x 8.5" These were slightly too large and the offset was wrong. I had to run with 8" which sit well and provide the proper clearance but only just.

8.5J ET13 have about 2 mm of space on original strut between wheel and strut so tire must be stretched. Will see what fits once I install coilovers I think 8J will be max with same ET + than set some camber so that tire wont rub. Will post it here once I set it up.

Update:

Got rear bumper from 2000cs since I will be running “clean” look with no bumper rubber in the back. Will install it after I get it re-chromed.

38480230_293000891250309_5353322786209136640_n.jpg

Also got some rubber parts – most important gasket for front windshield and rear as well. Will be removing both since I found some rust behind rear gasket and I don’t like to see edges of previous paint job since they didn’t remove gasket when they painted car.

gumice.jpg

Also got new front seatbelts (bought it with no seatbelts at all) and door stoppers - drivers’ door opened so much that it touched body and passenger door didn’t stay open. Bought Meyle: 014 072 0034 https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/door-brake-break.11538/page-2

pasovi.jpg

Didn’t remove sound insulation on the back of the car since it looked clean and I would never be able to fit new deadening insulation on the curves – maybe in the future but I don’t think so.

38744596_1037113549786329_3998977726420615168_n.jpg

I put new carpets in the car:

tro.jpg

Mount seatbelts – I didn’t want to drill in wood so I made reinforcing plate behind panel and mount holder on.

pas.jpg

Replace door stoppers:

Put rear seats back in - I had them cleaned and middle seat section upholstery was replace due to cigarette holes. And all rear leather parts are reupholstered.

That is it for now ;).

Did some work ...

GAZ coilovers were installed:

gaz.jpg

My friend made me camber plates so that I will be able to run 8J 17" wheel in front. Must measure in degrees but we gained a good CM of drop:
camber.jpg

Test wheel fitment in the back. Thought I will run 10J in the back but there is no clearance so I rebuild wheels into 9J

wheel fitment.jpg

We made CSL airdam since we needed 3. It fits OK some small work has to be done for proper fitment but I think all airdams do.

csl kalup.jpg

Test fit on my car:

airdam.jpg

Had rear 2000cs bumper re-chromed. Waiting for front bumper and window trims to get back from chroming.

rechrome.jpg

Gathered all used waistline trim (car came without) and had it polished. It looks good I will also had ceramic coat done so that polish will last longer.

trim 2.jpg
trim.jpg

And grill as well:

grill.jpg

I was also able to source both rocker panels trim in good condition:

44551265_292134804728597_1355733738679435264_n.jpg

Test fit on the car:
44455266_283891955556389_1613221829848072192_n.jpg

I don’t like rocker panels in original black color but I also don’t like this white gap that is now between trim and rocker seal. So I am thinking to paint rocker panel black on the upper side of trim.

Also acquired some parts from W&N:

parts.jpg

Plan is to do a respray on the car through winter time and than start putting it together and hopefully have it on the road in 2019 .

Small update.

Car was not running great for a while now… Replaced ignition coil, contact breaker, ignition cables, distributor cap and rotor and it is running better but still not quite how it should. Will deal with that when car will be on the road.

Also, I got front bumper and window trim back from chroming.

Plan is to give the car new paintjob this winter but I am still looking for proper master.

Found rust under rear windshield, front was clean.

Super thread its always interesting to see the different methods members use to.get their cars in the condition they want. Some go all at once, others piece by piece, you will have to change one thing I noticed btw; the wiper bracket is always black...an easy fix.:) you are doing an awesome job, and great work finding a coupe with a clean underside

Thanks! Yes I would also change some steps in restoration now ... but I wasn’t planning to go this far in the beginning. My plan in the beginning was to get missing parts, assemble the car and make it drivable. Then I found rusted rockers and one thing led to another. Yes, I will have wiper bracket painted black I see it is a big deal since it was noticed already :D.

Meanwhile that car is in body shop I am re-chroming last exterior parts.

Price for new grills is crazy so I sandblasted both plastic mask grills to see all the cracks. All cracks were welded and missing parts were added. Plastic will be repainted in black. If they will look bad I will buy new ones.

Plastic on my taillights is nice but chrome is not so nice. I decided to get taillight in bad condition (thanks to @Stan ) to learn the process of removing plastic lenses before trying on my taillights. They went out OK clean with no damages. I will have now frame re-chromed to see how lenses fit back in. If I will be happy I will do same work on my taillights.

Lenses that weren’t already broken came out with no damage.

We used grinder since it has small rpm and plastic doesn’t melt when cutting.

50055554_362989297590336_4212970550638673920_n.jpg 49625838_1046852688849679_5538156626483085312_n.jpg

When I get back frame from re-chroming I will see how lenses fit back and find best way to glue them back in.

Are they the go to guys for parts?
From what I understand, there are maybe three categories of vendors that parts are available for our coupes. The first is through the forum members - great people here and some may have just what you need. Then there is BMW - some parts are still available, I think. Finally, there are aftermarket or reproduction houses. W&N, Jaymic, there is a sheet metal source in Ploand, I beleieve. I'd throw Coupe King in this group, too. And maybe also LaJolla Independent (I know they offer springs for our coupes). But W&N seems to be a pretty comprehensive source, yes. (at least in my experience). :)
