Absolute horrid conditions for that t-stat housing.

You can get them brand new for fairly good price. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all M30s had the same t-stat housing???

Indeed I searched for it on ebay and I found it at $50. Strange because my first search was on WN but it seems they don't have it.

That's some serious work!

One question; how do you manage that the relative position of the wings & strut mounting points don't change compared to the original position?

Do you use a jig prior to position the panels prior to tac welding?
Or do you use measurements?
Or do you just your your expert eye perhaps?

Thing is that, besides having an endless interest in learning how to do this, I suspect that my e9 body is also in need of this....

Erik.

Erik,

that work is actually being performed by my bodyman so I am not able to go deep in details but, what I have seen is that he first jigged all the panels in position, then he checked the gaps with the fenders, doors and bonnet then he began to make welding points.

I'm pretty sure that any E9 needs (more or less) this kind of work after 40 years. What I've seen though is that the body of these these cars are badly designed: you can't use 30 different metal sheets to build a front end.

The bodyman is doing a "dry assembly" of the front end: he's told me that actually the gaps between the bonnet and wings are 7mm. The same for the bonnet and the nose.
Are those correct?
Has anyone ever measured the gaps on the front end?

Thanks

b careful
almost the same but not quite
you can get newer tstat housing that basically fits the M30 block, but be very careful to remember which housing it is and fit the correct tsat
old housings use old type tstat
newer housing use newer type tstat

see some here:

Front end almost finished. A lot of weldings!

And, of course, brand new machined towers for the rear shocks, in order to replace the old, rotten ones.

Looks great! Where did you get the machined rear shock mount replacements?
