Thanks, I guess I’ll give it a go! I’ve got this far haha

I’ve been digging through my boxes and boxes of hardware checking which little fasteners and screws I’m still missing and realised I do actually have the original key surround! Haha

Of course it’s not in perfect condition but I’ll see what I can do about that..

That key surround is from an e12. It fits but not perfect.

Hmm.. Ok thanks. So the e9 always has the “fahrt” text? Do you have any good detail shots of the original?
I’m happy to make do with the e12 unit until I can find or make a better fitting replacement. I actually prefer the look without the text..

Pedal box is pretty much done, just a few last little details to install. Been pretty busy lately but will start on the heater core and steering column soon.

Did a little assembly of the headlamps. Everything cleaned, lubed, powder coated and zinc plated.

Waiting on the correct screws for the chrome rings. Need to find new o-rings for the wiring cups too..

Hi James, The foot pedal box looks very nice, was there a piece of insulation behind the gas pedal rod? Mine came with it, keep up the good work, BTW Where did you get the rebuild kit for the clutch master cylinder?
Thanks
Victor

Ahhh, you are right. I did have some insulation there, but mine was so disintegrated I didn’t realise that it does need to go on before the accelerator rod.. oops..

I intend to order this piece from cs-Werk. As well as a few other insulation pieces.

The master cylinder kit was purchased from Wallothnesch I think.

So the insulation parts from cs-Werk arrived. Pretty happy with them, material quality is better than original and only some slight differences in the form as shown below.

I found my original insulation (not in as bad condition as I remembered so here are some comparison pics.

I assume the one cs Werk produce is for an automatic pedal box so a small piece must be cut out for the clutch and wiring.

Bought myself a red 9 blade fan. (Payed way too much haha ) It’s in really good condition though, just a bit dirty and dull.
Any tips to bring the red out and make it look as good as possible?

I’ve read about people sanding and polishing faded plastic, and also hitting it with a heat gun or blow torch which produces amazing colour results however reportedly only lasting a limited time.
I’m leaning more towards the sanding and polishing, but I’m aware there is only so much you can do..

I cleaned mine with WD-40 and #0000 steel
wool. I think the 9 blade plastic is somewhat different from the five blade. The five blade cleans up very well.

You could try a headlight polishing kit.

Thanks, yeah it’s definitely different to the 5 blade. The 5 is a deeper glossier red, very nice. This one is definitely more chalky and pink. Oh well I’ll see what I can do.

This may be blasphemy, but I wonder if there is an SEM paint color called "fan blade red"? ;)

I just don’t see a painted fan lasting very long, it takes quite a lot of abuse from heat, oil vapor, and debris. I clean mine when I polish the valve cover - every few weeks - in order to keep the stains off.

Yes, that paint job looks a bit heavy handed. Not was I was gently pondering. I agree this is a tough element that gets beat up from several elements. The whitish chalkiness is presumably the plastic's lack of perfect resistance to UV. That is a hard thing to reverse.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I’ll try sanding/steel wool and some products to bring the colour out rather than painting it. I can alway paint my black fan if I wanted to go the route, I have seen it done before with good results (better than the Ferrari fan above) but still longevity is a question. Would have been ok for a temporary solution though.

Sperrdifferential arrived yesterday, I was told it was a 3.25 ratio however the numbers on the side 13 40 suggest it’s a 3.07? i understand this is quite a rare diff, but I wasn’t after such a long ratio..

have a 5spd OD gearbox, and thought with the B2 motor a 3.25lsd would be a good match. maybe if I had a close ratio 5spd the 3.07 could work, but i don’t really want to have to buy another gear box...

hmm...

Scotch brite and silicone cleaner first, then Wd40 and steel wool, followed by polishing with a cutting compound.
I also repainted the steel centre plate with silver zinc spray. I think this is as good as it’s going to look. Pretty happy with the outcome.

It’s still an orange hue, the plastic was never truly red to begin with. You can see the comparison with the original 5 blade below.
