1972 E9 3.0 CSI - Chamonix

Update:

Got rear bumper from 2000cs since I will be running “clean” look with no bumper rubber in the back. Will install it after I get it re-chromed.

Also got some rubber parts – most important gasket for front windshield and rear as well. Will be removing both since I found some rust behind rear gasket and I don’t like to see edges of previous paint job since they didn’t remove gasket when they painted car.

Also got new front seatbelts (bought it with no seatbelts at all) and door stoppers - drivers’ door opened so much that it touched body and passenger door didn’t stay open. Bought Meyle: 014 072 0034 https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/door-brake-break.11538/page-2

Didn’t remove sound insulation on the back of the car since it looked clean and I would never be able to fit new deadening insulation on the curves – maybe in the future but I don’t think so.

I put new carpets in the car:

Mount seatbelts – I didn’t want to drill in wood so I made reinforcing plate behind panel and mount holder on.

Replace door stoppers:

Put rear seats back in - I had them cleaned and middle seat section upholstery was replace due to cigarette holes. And all rear leather parts are reupholstered.

That is it for now ;).

Hi and good evening.
Do you have more pictures about the seat belt mounting point and the bracket that you built on the upper point?
What model of seat belt did you buy and they have even the European omologation?

Hi Carmine,

Sorry at the moment I don’t have any photos of mounting behind the panel but they I realize it sits a bit to low I should make bracket higher behind wooden part - seat belt would be more comfortable around your shoulder. I didn’t want to destroy wood.

I bought seat belts here: https://www.lakewell.com/en/bmw/front-seat-belts-pair-bmw-e9-68-75-and-02-series-66-77

They do have european homologation.

Primered second time and some parts already in paint

Got new emblems as well… little comparison old vs new. I am pleased with quality of hood/trunk emblem. I like C - pillar old style emblems more – at new ones blue looks “purple” in person + attach points are not same as on old ones. Will see how it fits.

After first chrome job started peeling off while attempted to glue back in lenses I had frames chromed again. Chrome job is now better and lenses are glued back in.

Just saw this thread, and read through the whole thing (yes, I am supposed to be working)...Well done and well documented. I admire your energy and patience...(if its not right, go back and fix it properly). What type of "glue" did you use on the tailight lens'. Was the first chrome peeling from their poor preparation, or did they say. Yours look like jewelry now. Well done.

Thanks @dave v. in nc
I used heat resistant clear silicone... worked best on my test frame compared with 2 component glue I also tried – when it dried it was too hard and seen through lenses. Also when I have to take out lenses to have frames re-chromed again I had trouble removing them so silicone holds strong. I have spare lenses just in case but I hope I won’t need them.

Yes I believe the cause of chrome peeling was bad preparation but they said material of frame is hard to work with... anyway second time they did better job no peeling and no bubbles on surface.

Fitment of reproduction C pillar emblems is not good, keep searching for new old stock if you can find.
And I agree, they look purple

I was afraid of that but I didn’t expect so much difference when ordering original but new production products. Will be searching for new old stock hope I get lucky.

Can you please tell if aluminium was chromed?
Ask, because it look very nice & it doesn't look like regular anodized.

I had them nickel plated. At first I only wanted to keep them polished and ceramic coated but that does not last long.

I also had same procedure done on my e24 grill and one aluminium window trim that was damaged.

Grinded rocker covers... wanted to have them in same color as body of the car but will go with black.

Grill around headlights in now painted and I like the finish still looks like plastic without glossy look and layer is really thin.
