These are the posts that inspire me the most. Seeing the corrosion (that I personally feel lurks in all of our original cars), and watching it be transformed/fabricated into a "better than new" condition - to be enjoyed for decades to come. Love it - looks great!!!

Thanks guys! I love it too, I get so much satisfaction from scrolling back through my pictures to see the rusty before pics haha

Here’s another shot of the rear axle

thanks James ! i already send a mail if they can deliver 4 sets.... ( as i see only 2 in stock )

I only bought 2 sets actually. I think I will only run spacers on the rear (if at all), but if you wanted longer studs on all 4 corners you can replace the rear with the ARP studs, and then put the oem rear studs on the front. They are about 10mm longer.

@JamesE30 , i just ordered 4 sets , they claim to have them in about a week. ( only 2 sets in stock now ) Even if rear studs are 10 mm longer, that's not enough for my 12 mm spacers…. as i find already now the nuts are not fully on it … yes , about 8 turns , which should be OK , but i like to see them fully threaded. If they are to long , no problem to cut a part off.

Hi James, I was wondering about the calipers, when you had them zinc plated, did you removed all of the seals and pistons out of each of the them? How did they prevented from getting the zinc in there?
Thanks Victor

Yes the calipers were completely disassembled and zinc plated including the piston bores. It’s important the bores are protected as well, as corrosion in there is most likely to lead to siezend pistons..

A couple more much needed panels arrived. Check out the drivers side patch job from before!

Also my friend finished welding the dolly together from some drawings I made, just need to shorten the front legs due to a typo on my final drawing... ugh

Should hopefully have the car back on the ground tonight.

could you possibly share those drawings/specs for the dolly you've made? I am getting close to the point I will have to weld one together soon, would be great if you've already written some information down. Thanks!

If your engine is a 230ps B2 it should not have hemispherical combustion chambers and the pistons should be stock Si/CSi pistons.

These engines "only" have the Alpina 300 degree camshaft, Alpina triple carb setup -normally Solex - and Alpina special exhaust.
Not sure if they were blueprinted, but they were certainly assembled with great care.
I dont know where you're getting your info from, but Alpina would not put a hemi head on stock piano top pistons. Makes no sense, since the pistons would not match the chambers, and that is an Alpina trademark. I have a B2 3.0 with hemi pistons, like it's supposed to with rods exacly like pictured above with the cap lightened and polished. The pistons are the same profile as the later 92mm E24/28 B9 and B10 pistons, with a very proud rise all the way around from the outer edge sloping inward, then flattening across the surface, with valve reliefs cut.

This is B2 engine nº1545, built in 1975.

Alpina confirmed that the head (which has its own identification number) was the correct one for this block.

On the last picture you can recognize the Schleicher logo on the 300° Alpina camshaft.

Sure! Sorry for the late reply but I will sear h for the dimensions (have the drawing somewhere..) and post them up.

hi James, I am interested in your wheels, can you tell me what size and make they are...??

They are Fondmetal 16x8 +11 from memory

Thank you for posting this pictures, very interesting.

Buchloe confirmed that my block is original Alpina and was produced in 1978.
My cylinder head has infact been swapped at some point in the car’s life to a slightly newer 3 litre head from 1980.

I wonder if you gurus can help me identify the camshaft? It has the same Schleicher logo as yours but the number 348 instead of 351. It also has the number 2582 701 stamped on it.

So question is was the alpina camshaft swapped over to this new head, or do I have some other camshaft?

Any details/help would be appreciated! :)

My camshaft also has 2582701.
They are very likely identical.
300° was the standard camshaft for all 3.0 engines.
348 and 351 could be references to the production runs.

Does your cylinder head have the stock "Dreikugelwirbelwanne" shape, like mine ?
